I was really hopeful for the Season Finale
onikage-4932411 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
My main issue with this show is they keep having unfinished plot threads. Nothing is ever resolved, its just left open-ended and I was praying (pun intended) they'd actually close the loose ends in the Finale.

Nope. I'm all for leaving things Open To Interpretation but this is ridiculous.

The last few episodes have been REALLY bad about this, lets go over the major ones: 1. Ben's girlfriend may have split into two different people, both sisters now have physical form and... no closure on that in the Finale.

2. Sheryl and Leland are murdering a lot of people, collecting jars of victim's blood and its not even treated like a major story! Also no info on the brown liquid Sheryl's been injecting

3. RSM (the fertility clinic) stole one of Kristen's eggs and the last season ended with them being the "big evil" that was sowing the seeds and may have corrupted Lexis in the womb. Oh and Lexis might actually have a TAIL but at least that could have been a metaphor for her own body image.

4. Quick Summary of the rest: Leland killed his Demon therapist and no follow up on that major incident. No mention of the Silent Monks who existed to protect a caged demon (who got out) so wtf are they even doing if their one purpose is gone? Nothing about all the kids or the dolls or the angels or the Muslim creatures that were introduced.

The ONLY thing that got somewhat answered was the Demonic Visions people were having. Apparently, believing in God makes you vulnerable to Demons and so far there's no defense against it. Sister Andrea is just so casual with the info and David at least has the right reaction to finding out.

The ending was just so rushed it felt silly. In 60 seconds Kristen goes from hysterically crying while begging for God's forgiveness for all her sins, promising to not do that stuff anymore and then starts making out with David.

Maybe this is some long term plan by the producers that all this stuff will come back and be relevant in future episodes, but I don't think the fans will keep watching at this rate.

I love this show but it makes my eye twitch!

Warning: Spoilers
Why does nobody talk to anyone about anything? Ben not telling his friends about the female demon? Kristen not telling David about fire head man? Lexus not telling her mom about her TAIL? And what the heck is up with her mom?? Weird blood transfusions and satanic dolls all of a sudden? I can't even! I love this show but it's like a 5 year old telling an incoherent story using one long run-on sentence. Get to a point!!!!!! Yep. There goes my eye twitching!

A satisfying season finale
tanstorck10 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
First of all, I liked the case for this week's episode. I was wondering why they kept referencing formaldehyde. I was hoping things would connect with the Leland and Sheryl craziness and they did. I was not expecting it to get even more bizarre. We still don't really know what is going on with them but we know it has something to do with cannibalism and Satan worshippers (which connects it to a couple episodes back). David really struggles with becoming ordained but ends up going through with it. After Kristen's breakdown and confession (with an amazing performance by Katja Herbers) David and Kristen kiss in the final shot of the season. It didn't feel cheesy. It definitely felt realistic although I tried to warn them by yelling at the tv "DON'T DO IT". They didn't listen. This was a very intense episode as we dealt with cannibals and a new winged demon (maybe the devil). I loved sister Andrea in this episode. I hope to see more of her in the next season. Dr. Boggs is finally starting to think God is real. This episode and the private bathroom exorcism episode make me wonder if Kristen is starting to believe too.

Everything good about Evil
malcolmjohnston25 August 2022
Great end to the season , with everything good about this series. The Kings know how to write and edit a show & this episode shows how to create suspense & tension, showing just enough of the under current to keep your curiosity peaked. It uses CGI images yes, also the occasional bloody scene but the has the good sense from the moment of the teaser trailer from the previous episode it doesn't just try to smack you around the face with an all out assault of gore & guts.

It lets you think your own twisted plots to fill in the gaps , which I find quite compelling.

2 seasons down & a 3rd to go . With any luck Evil will hold its nerve & keep creating great stories & with the grace of Paramount + they won't have the axe brought down just yet .

Flawed, but the best of season two
renbutler9 January 2023
Season two had its ups and its downs (very down), but it ended with a bang. Okay, well it was a bang up until the very last minute, which disappointed heavily.

But before that, it was packed with twists and turns and OMG moments. It pushed the show's mythology forward (which happened a lot in season 1 but slowed way down in season 2). It had gruesome and intense moments. It showed some real humanity in Kristen for a change, and it stepped up Leland's shock value to a whole new level.

In addition to the final minute, the only complaint is that the move to streaming has given the show too many opportunities for unnecessary sexual imagery. I loved watching season one with my tweenaged son, but it's harder now. For once though, I DIDN'T have to spend a whole episode explaining the constant half truths and misunderstanding of the Church.

Anyway, I'll leave it with this: Sister Andrea is a BAD-ASS!!!!!!!

W is For WTFDIJW?
wildernessbarbie13 October 2021
Not sure what I just watched... I actually had to go back and quickly check to make sure I hadn't sat on the FF button.

Did the pandemic cut filming short? Were there supposed to be several more episodes in there that actually finished a story arc?

I'm all for an X-Files-esque take on religion, but at least they (sort of) explained the origin of the monster at the end of the episode.

They also knew that keeping the unaddressed sexual tension UNADDRESSED is what made that partnership more interesting. ::AHEM!::

These episodes give the impression that the writers are terrified that the show might be canceled at any second, so they keep creating these massive, unresolved story lines in order to keep stringing us along and boost ratings. Well, their lack of faith is going to backfire as we lose track of who did what and why we should care, and none of the villains ever seem to get punished, and the people we should care about all become villainous and unrepentant.

I'm no fan of organized religion, ESPECIALLY the Catholic Church, but even I'm starting to feel like this is getting disrespectful and like thinly veiled hate mail to the Vatican.

Well, that happened. Now the show is officially a Scooby-Doo soap opera.

Horrible final episode
samadreme14 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Loved this show until that last episode. I thought we were past all that. He chose to be a priest and she vowed to not cheat on her husband again. If they wanted this it should have been before she worked it out with her husband who is giving up his buisness so he can be home more. Now I diss like the two main characters. I guess i wont be watching season three.

This episode spoiled the whole show!
mkcinhina10 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I can put up with how this show treats religion, not just the Christian religion but the whole idea of religion and religious belief but this episode went down the wrong path.

David on the evening of his ordination succumbs to temptation right after taking confession from Kristen, in a truly deep and touching scene, right after she has solemnly sworn to deny temptation. No, I'm afraid that just doesn't fly for me.

The confessional scene was awesome, powerful and deep. The immediate actions subsequent to this are unforgivable. If the showrunner wants David to not be a priest in the 3rd season then just have him not go through with his ordination.

Kristen up until her confession was an unpunished murderer supported by the police and her psychiatrist. The psychiatrist I can take of course but the police, no, no way. She truly repented during confession and it was well played by Katja Herbers but then to make that confession worthless in the very next breath is downright pathetic.

I had promised myself during this season that if, I could see this coming, something like this happened I would not follow season 3 (no doubt I actually will watch it if only to see how this is resolved).

Why treat religious experience with such contempt? During the whole two seasons that it has thus far run there have been no real exorcisms. The church, through David, has not helped anyone religiously or otherwise in fact. I'm not looking for religious apologetics but I am asking that at least some credence, credit and respect is given to the institute of religion that this show seeks to use for its basic premise.

Worst soap opera
vpashokkumar7 November 2021
Just dragging without any story other than lust. The writer doesn't have any clue what to produce next other than lust. Is it fighting demon or lust?

Worst episode in the whole series.

Yikes
lmk-573746 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This season was fairly atrocious and this episode was the "icing on the cake" (not in a good way).

Seemed like the writers this year became much more concerned with working in political agenda than writing a cohesive plot which was rather sad to see. There is virtually nothing that ties this season together.

Where they were finally given a chance wrap at least one plot thread from the entire season, instead they floundered around, jumping between disconnected stories of cannibals and demons and lust, making Kristen and David kiss at maybe the first time you don't want them to.

I understand that much of this season was meant to represent Kristen's descent, but she really was insufferable. Self-righteous and disrespectful, a very unlikable character this season, and then you top that off by giving her a lazy redemption arc, awkwardly lumped in with Leland's confusing exorcism, and completely do a 180 in 15 seconds of confessing/overcoming her sins by making her cheat on her husband (again).

Presenting mysteries and then continually letting them go by the wayside so long that people forget about them is not compelling. Piling more and more mysteries on top does not make that issue better, but worse.

It is amazing something so poorly devised is still running. I really hope season 3 gets back on track, because I loved season 1, but this was a travesty.

Perhaps season 2 episode 1 being titled "A is for Angel" something a 3rd grader could have come up with should have been some indication as to the creativity we should have expected from this season.

Have the father take away the kids till the series finally
draftdubya22 April 2022
This is the same crap that made me stop watching Law and Order SVU. The kids don't need to be apart of every episode. The writers don't have kids or they have a bunch of them and want us to suffer like them. To top it off you gave them two idiots for parents.
