- In Badger's Drift, Detective Chief Inspector Barnaby and Detective Sergeant Jones investigate the murder of Jim Hanley who is found dead in local school teacher Connie Bishop's garden. On several occasions Connie thought there had been an intruder in the house and in the most recent incident had shouted for help from her second floor bedroom window. Unfortunately, it's not the first time she's called for help in this way and as far as the neighbors are concerned, she's crying wolf. Hanley was the head of the neighborhood watch committee and a local councilor who, according to Zukie Richardson, was infatuated with Connie. Richardson, the wife of retired millionaire Howard Richardson, had clashed with Connie recently over the arrangements for a local fund-raising event but Zukie had pretty managed to alienate everyone involved in the planning of the event. When it comes to light that Connie is a sleep walker, she admits to Barnaby that she has been having vivid dreams and could very well be the killer. After a second murder however, Barnaby believes the solution lies elsewhere.—garykmcd
- Naive, single sleepwalking Badger's Drift village school teacher Connie Bishop cried wolf on an imaginary intruder too often yet councilman and neighborhood watch captain Jim Hanley is killed from a spot in her garden fit for spying. The flirtatious handyman Laurence Mann, who brought wine after fixing the locks at her request, was remanded to the summer house, where she finds him also with slit throat. She admits suspecting herself of horror given nightmares after crying out loudly, having sleepwalked into the bed of shyly smitten artist Justin Hooper, who had to sell her the house because of his divorce, when finally invited to spend the night as safe chaperon. The school's vital philanthropist Howard Richardson's high-maintenance wife Zukie still plans the school's annual 'Frobisher night' fund raising, bullying over traditions Conny adheres to, undaunted. The detectives must fit the puzzle pieces around real estate.—KGF Vissers
