This is *almost* so bad it's good
marq-singer1 July 2018
If the movie were under ninety minutes, it might be more watchable.

The dialog comes across as written by someone who's never actually had a conversation before. The acting has two modes: flat and scenery chewing. The sound design is atrocious. Often actors in the same scene sound like they were recorded in different rooms, one will be muddy, the other echo-y.

Honestly, there are some great laugh out load moments, interspersed amid lots of nothing happening. It might be more watchable if you jump ahead five minutes every so often.

Not really a spoiler, but I would have been much happier if Frantisek Mach had electric nipples....but alas, no.

A dark romance flick with a great cast
brandy_whitford13 September 2010
I went to see this movie The Incubus on the day it came out- Sept. 10, 2010 and it was quite a surprise!!! Produced and directed by Marcie Gorman, directed, written, and acting by Shayne Leighton along with a talented cast of actors. I suggest everyone go see this movie-especially with a date!!! The love and pain of this story is amazing!!! It did not feel like 100 minutes went by when I was watching it-it flows very well!!! I love how the writer made a story that makes me think of the book "Spoon River." My favorite characters include Johnny, James, and Rapheal though I wish I could be Marnie or Bianca!!! Michael C. Nouri's (Johnny) and James Pace's (Walter) performance stood out to me the most. Michael being the total comic relief this movie needed and James being so psycho and suspenseful!!! Michael is an upcoming star who reminds me of an interesting mix: Jim Carrey, Johnny Depp, and Al Pacino. Shayne Leighton (Marnie) has a character girls can relate to. She lives life with a crazy guardian (her uncle) and goes to school. Her best friend is Johnny and I have to say these two have great chemistry. I wish I had a best friend like Johnny!!! I fell in love with them sticking up for one another- (like when they're at school). Frank Mach (Raphael) is a girls 'bad guy' dream!!! He's gorgeous and a bad guy that wants to be good!!! That's so hot to me!!! Alexandra Santanna (Bianca) plays the leader of the Incubus- a small girl with mega power!!! Everyone needs to watch out for her!!! The music is amazing too thanks to Anthony Espina who scored the entire film!!!! This movie left me wanting to see and know more!!!!!!!

Terrible! Two Astro-Turfing Reviews?
KnyghtMirror15 May 2020
The acting is terribly flat in this rip-off of Twlight. Welcome to Forks...error Spoon River. Oh wait he's not a vampire, but he sucks life energy. She's not in high school, she's in college...but the popular girls and other idiots act like there in high school. Also there is a music video for some reason. Also, also its a vanity project directed, written, song by, and starring. Its not quite good bad. The 8/10's are definitely astro-turfing.

Sometimes....there is a movie....
Agent1030 July 2021
Some days you stumble on absolute, unbelievable nonsense that allows you to sharpen your palette for film appreciation. You come across a movie like The Incubus, which has no flavor, looks poorly presented and in the words of Gordon Ramsay, made by someone with the tastebuds of a mentally incapable donkey.

I can't dunk too much on this film, since it was a vanity project by a high school woman who had no idea what she and her friends were doing. I mean, when I got out of high school I was working fast food and riding the bus, not making an unwatchable movie. Privilege does allow for different paths to be taken, but dang use your privilege better!

Anyway, we follow Marnie, the plain Jane average girl in a city of 500 (?!) people where just about everyone is rich and cruel to her. No, this film was not filmed in a beautiful suburb in Miami that may or may not host films of the pornographic variety. But I digress. A new group of Hot Topic dressed weirdos come into town led by the evil and seductive Bianca, who has some strange love connection to her Tommy Wiseau-ish boyfriend Raphael. Hijinks ensue as people start dying and absolutely no one suspects these people who clearly have no jobs and spend their days at home. But I guess everyone is too busy to be bothered in their palatial and spacious homes as residents are disappearing and dying. Man small towns do suck.

With this being a direct knockoff of young adult fiction, the tropes follow pretty closely. Bad boy is super hot and falls for the average girl even though he is way out of her league, evil relative that killed the protagonist's parents tries to kill main characters, goofy friends get killed off by the love interest, supernatural "battle" occurs, tons of emoting, overly clean sex scene happens and of course random emo music video in the film. WTF.

I love this piece of garbage, but I have to honestly give it a 1. It's so terrible that I wish the woman who dreamed this up made a legit sequel. Anyway, that is all!

Great Story, Well Written, and Decent Acting
geishagyrl21 January 2014
Really enjoyed this movie. I came across it a couple years ago but never got to finish it, but what I did see stuck with me. I finally found it again on VUDU and I wasn't let down in the slightest. The story is fantastic which doesn't surprise me since Shayne Leighton wrote it. She's also a very skilled actress and loved her in the lead role of Marnie. There was great chemistry amongst the cast and acting for the film was overall pretty good. There were a few actors/scenes that were a bit 'over the top' but not as many as I had expected and was easily overlooked based on the rest of the film and actors. Johnny was probably my favorite character as he reminds me of the best friend that everyone wishes they had - a little crazy but that's why you love him and he's always there for you. Frantisek Mach who played lead opposite Shayne as Raphael, did an excellent job in his portrayal of the tortured Incubus fighting between his true nature and who he wants to be. Perfect blend of angsty bad boy and sensitive lover, I'd enjoy seeing him in more. It's not a major Hollywood blockbuster but it has its charm and sucks you into the story fast. I only knocked it a couple stars because of those couple instances of over the top acting/scenes and a few spots where the sound is out of balance so it goes from being pretty loud (so you turn the volume down) to super soft (which you then have to turn the volume up to hear what's being said). Otherwise, great! I've watched it twice since renting and am totally going to buy it!
