A cruel study on idiocy and intolerance
Ana_Banana5 December 2022
An excellent tragicomedy, more on the tragic side, presenting (sometimes in an almost surreal, caricature style) the intolerance of idiots in today's society. Marred by the impulsiveness and superficiality entertained by the so-called social media and the manipulative press, it is made up of a gallery of 'global village idiots' who feel entitled to an opinion on everything, especially to an extremely judgmental one, to the brink of verbal and physical abuse.

The acting is fine throughout and the film has a keen eye for significant details and minutiae, and also a refreshingly real feel (for its most part), even though it has actually no clear thread following the action, but a series of ever crueler perspectives triggered by the same incident. In a welcome, deeper addition to the real-life fact in South Korea that has inspired this film, the contrast between depressed loneliness and loud intolerance provides the emotional fuel that allows it to move forward.

A movie who reflect with high fidelity the intolerance who flageled the romanian society after the involution, the fall of communism , and the raise of sclavagist-capitalism where everybody is for himself.

Kitch movie

If you want to see a multitude of clishee and worn out ideas of Romanian movies this is for you and by the way spoiler the dog dies big surprise no? This is a kitch movie, i was actually surprised hey didn't put a pot of sarmale at the table in the end but i was relieved when i saw the harassment scene out of nowhere before the credits roled, glad tahat they borrowed from films like "Filantropica" or "the death of mr Lazarescu" , this movie is a kitch and a sick parody of much better romanian movies before it . I was actually waiting for an abortion scene and a close capture of the bloody fetus to show us how seriuos this movie was but the clasical music at the and saved us.

Dog Poop Girl is a black comedy that tells the story of a clerk employed in a bank, whose life is entirely connected to social networks. The idea for the film started from a real event, which took place in South Korea in 2005.... OK!

A single woman and trusted bank employee, Alina is the average corporate worker, with a chaotic personal life but with just enough money to buy herself some sort of happiness. The apparent calm of her existence is shaken by the decision to adopt a stray dog which accidentally regurgitates food on the floor of a subway car.

That's why we non't have nice movies...

Opaque X-Ray
tributarystu21 January 2024
This satire by Andrei Hutuleac wants to address dysfunctions of modern (Romanian) society, transfixed in its obsession with scandals and its deformed perception of justice and how these have been galvanized by internet culture.

Clearly, these are valid observations, that have been made many a time; often, without being memorably incisive, but on occasion with some flair. Radu Jude's 2021 movie that I can't name because my review won't be published is an example of the latter, but it feels crass to even mention it here.

#dogpoopgirl turns out as an opaque X-ray of no real value, that at best is unfunny and at worst is tasteless. The state of the nation is, indeed, more tragic than comic, but in order to successfully portray that in a movie, you can't just recreate familiar news reels and dump on a contourless lead. That's in spite of Andreea Gramosteanu's performance, which offers some dignity when her character has none.

Perhaps I'm being harsh - had the movie been a short, consisting of the intro/outro sequences, it would have almost worked. Altogether, though, even at a measly 78 minutes, this movie is an hour too long.
