The dance scene

Warning: Spoilers
That's it. That's all I need to say. The scene where everyone is dancing to "Forever Young" represents everything that's special about this show. It's automatically more heartfelt, sincere, joyful, and human than anything Titan's S3 has done so far. This show deserves so much more attention.

Billy Boyd is fantastic as Samuelson!

Great start to the 3rd season after the first episode was basically wrapping up season 2.

Garguax and Samuelson are excellently portrayed.

This season is shaping up to be very very good.

This show is always getting better

So I read this article that compared Doom Patrol to The Umbrella Academy in terms of an old comic book geek question...who would win if they fought each other. Even I had to agree with the conclusion of the writer - The Umbrella Academy, simply due to the fact that more often than not, they have their sh** together when fighting as a team. But if you ask me which one is the better show?

Hands down, Doom Patrol.

The fact alone that this show chooses...and does better...character study over action. No offense to Umbrella Academy, I love that show too, but Doom Patrol has been my favourite show of ever since it started. And I can't even say that about the Grant Morrison run of the comic book because before it on my list of top comics are Watchmen, V for Vendetta, certain Garth Ennis works (Preacher, Goddess, and The Boys...which is a beautifully scathing indictment of corporate and celebrity culture...as well as Ennis' entire run on Hellblazer) and John Ostrander's run on The Spectre. This show is one of the best examples of doing right by the source material, in both adapting storylines from the comics and going off book when creating their own material. Viva la Recreator!

Somewhere, Grant Morrison is Smiling
Gislef4 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Remember at the end of Crisis, we saw the Doom Patrol dancing on the manor.? We finally get a payoff of sorts to that scene, in a beautifully-staged sequence where first Jane, then Rita, then Cliff, then Vic, all dance to 'Forever Young'. And that pretty much sums up the whole series. While other teams fight villains and team act heroic, the DP is all about the personal angst, poke fun at the whole hero/villain dynamic, and dancing. Which is what Grant Morrison was doing back in the day with his run on the comic book series.

All of the mains are pretty amusing and spot on. Stephen Murphy is really good as Garguax, the supervillain who has spent 70 years waiting for Rita on the orders (why?) of Brain. Billy Boyd, I couldn't pick out of a lineup, although yes, He was Pippin in the Lord of the Rings films and one of the halflings. That still doesn't help. I found his Scottish accent--most noticeable when he was berating Gargaux at the end--a bit distracting, but oh well. Boyd is probably the weak link in a stellar cast, but he's still good. I like how he and Murphy perfectly encapsulate the villain/lackey relationship from the comics.

The weak link in the episode, story-wise, is the Larry subplot. So Larry flies off into space to reconcile with the Spirit and... doesn't? Nothing seemed to get accomplished here, other than to take Larry out of the picture so he can come back and be a main character while the others are dead

Overall, a great episode and I watch the dance sequence near the end, over and over again.

But that's just my opinion, I could be wrong. What do you think?
