During a solo performance, an accomplished concert pianist is unable to play the final note of the piece because he loses use of the finger required to do so. One by one over time, he loses use of more and more of his fingers. At first he is reduced to doing other things in the music business for work, but eventually he is even unable to do those jobs. He goes on an emotional downward spiral, where losing the use of his fingers not only affects his ability to do other non-music jobs he is able to get, but also his ability to function, period. Where it all started may be what he needs to get back on track.
