Intense dark movie
imdb-690087 December 2022
Excellent film, the film is dark because it is about the mafia, but it has a style that we rarely see in French movies. At first everything is foggy and we are lost but then the story takes a really great and exciting turn.

"Kanun: Law of Blood" is a French film directed by Jérémie Guez, a director and screenwriter (known for "Boite Noire" for example), and references Kanun, the name of medieval customary law codes to which some clans in northern Albanian territories still refer, including Kosovo.

Lorik has fled his native Albania to escape a vendetta. In Brussels, he wastes his youth working for a mafia clan with dubious methods... until he falls head over heels for Sema, a young Turkish art student. As he starts to dream of a love story, a man whose father was killed by a member of Lorik's family demands, according to the rules of Kanun, that his debt be paid in blood: Lorik's blood.

This film follows in the footsteps of thrillers like "Paradise Bowling" with a particular treatment of night scenes and urban deserts.

Waël Sersoub (a great revelation) and Tugba Sunguronlu (seen in the beautiful "Mustang") are very accurate and provide the necessary soul supplement for the viewer's immersion.

The film is not immune to small criticisms about its editing and photography, but I did not sulk and was even surprised by its ultimately quite unexpected conclusion.

A beautiful discovery of a director's universe that we will follow on his next films.

Fans of dark stories and community score-settling, this film is for you!

What a waste of time

I who crave about Albanian mafia, underworld, stories, I loved HYENA, back in 2015, it was dark, gloomy, not cheesy like this crap, where a f...romance interferes in a plot where no chick at all should have her place. Let me explain that the true authentic Albanian mafia is one of the most fierce, bloodthirsty in the world, besides the Mexican cartels and also Colombians.... So, what a deception for me to discover this lousy romance flick, where I was so bored and disappointed.... I expected far far more from this movie that I have waited so long for. This is here just petty hoodlums, jerks, certainly not the powerful Albanian mafia.
