New character and not a dour one!

Treys mom is a hoot! It is nice to have a new character that is exuberant. The drama that unfolded in the last half hour seemed a bit...rushed.

EXCELLENT in all points but one

Warning: Spoilers
This was a tightly paced episode that brought together many of the messages and themes of the season. It added to the story, in spite of the fact these last five episodes were a late order by the network and were advertised as a "bonus" after ep 13.

The plot doesn't seem make work, however. Every moment of the episode is used well.

The visuals are superb. The editing and the directing add to the story. I'm not sure how hard they had to push to get this result, given the limits of time & budget, but for the last two episodes it was really worth it.

Acting A+ from all involved & this one was "all hands on deck."

Why not a ten then?

I'm continuously bothered by two pairings the writers seem fond of. Why would Stella in any way still have romantic feelings for Trevor? He held a gun on them.

While I'd understand her supporting him as a friend who had extreme issues & needed help, to in any way still feel it was a grand romance? No. Just no.

The other pairing is Geri & Cordell.

Geri seemed to pull back a bit, rightfully, after her actions led to Hoyt being in the "wrong place at the wrong time" (and dying.)

She had told him she loved him for over half her life, but she discarded him after one kiss from Cordell. So either she was lying all those years or she had a very sudden & cold hearted change.

I thought by pulling back & expressing some feelings of grief, the need for "TIME," the writers might work me around to a different point of view.

Instead this week were were back to Geri looking giddy & flirty. No regrets. No remorse.

My only hope is the very weird vibe when Walker said he was going to talk to Mendoza to find some things out. Geri's nervous "look."

Is she the villain after all? Will there be a plot twist?

They had me thinking so in earlier eps. But now I'm afraid it's just going to drag on with her somehow using memories of Hoyt as flirtations with Cordell. (Low. So low.)

Meanwhile, do I understand why the writers want these two dark pairs? No.

Trey & Micki, Abeline & Bonham, Liam & Bret--HUGE yes for them, however.

The partnership of Cordell & Micki? On track & sizzling, too.

ANYWAY, so much good. Well deserving of a nine, some I'm sure would say a ten.

I just personally got pulled out of the story by the "ew."

Thank Heaven for Richard Speight Jr
Metafan24 July 2021
Finally a director that made this watchable! So far this is the only episode worth watching and it still has awful dialogue and story line. But Speight managed to pull some acting out of the cast that no other director has. Now if they can keep Speight and then get new writers... and a new storyline, this could work.
