Painful revelations.
Sleepin_Dragon3 November 2021
Matthew and his team continue to dig, they realise they have to treat Rosa very delicately, however Matthew is sidetracked by the prospect of a relationship with his estranged mother.

What a difference, I wasn't exactly blown away by the first two episodes, however this is something of a turning point, the upturn in quality is noticeable, the mystery is finally interesting, the relationships finally matter, it feels as though the cogs of the machinery are ticking over at last.

It's nice to see Anita Dobson coming into her own, I'll be honest, I didn't recognise her initially, am so used to her being a glamour puss, no glamour here though.

It's not doing much for small religious groups, they are portrayed as insular weirdos.

Brother Dennis, I'm bit sure about him. Shaw is incredibly good.

Finally, enjoyed this, 7/10.

Episode 3

It is the penultimate episode and The Long Call is still running through the list of suspects.

It is all a red herring in case the viewer thinks that coercive Dennis and his religious order is behind it all.

Matthew realises this when he senses that his mother's view on homosexuality has not really thawed. Dennis has just sent on some mission of pretence.

There is also some side tracks. One character is suspected of being involved of a sexual assault. They are merely red herrings.

Pacing is still and issue and this really is Broadchurch lite despite being based on a book by Ann Cleeves.

Barely moving

This doesn't get any better still plodding along at a snail's pace.

Iona Anderson plays Rosa very well but noone else really stands out or is a character to really care about.

Three quarters of the way through and the viewer is still getting to know the people involved.
