Some people say they prefer video games to any kind of TV show these days, and it's not hard to see why. Not only do games offer amazing stories and great graphics, but they also draw you in and make you feel like a part of the universe in which the events take place.
However, games take time, skill, and patience, and they're not for everyone. So, if you are interested in some of the plots of video games, but want to sit back and relax while watching them, here are 8 best adaptations that might be a perfect choice.
8. Sonic Prime (2022-...) – 60%
The fate of the world is once again in Sonic's hands as he must use his super speed to save the newly created multiverse. Although the latest installment of the famous hedgehog's journey didn't impress audiences too much, viewers were much more appreciative, giving the show an 86% approval rating.

This article contains spoilers for the entire Knuckles live-action TV-series.
Knuckles the Echidna. He’s rougher than the rest of them, the best of them, tougher than leather, as his famous theme song boasts. Introduced all the way back in Sonic the Hedgehog 3 on Sega Genesis as the titular hero’s nemesis, the spike fisted loner has gone on to become a key part of the franchise’s cast. Reinterpreted over the years as everything from a rapping treasure hunter in Sonic Adventure to a chosen-one savior that, as a baby egg, was nuked by radiation in the Archie comic series.
The Sonic movies haven’t been shy about drawing direct inspiration from past incarnations of the franchise to help inspire their stories so where does the Knuckles series take its main inspiration from? Duncan Rouleau, creator of Sonic Prime, offered a potentially discouraging update for fans of the animated series.
Sonic Prime has proven to be popular in its run on Netflix. The series offers a fresh take on everyone’s favorite hedgehog and his band of colorful companions.
The series, which deals heavily with the Multiverse, offers many alternate universe doppelgängers of well-known characters and just dropped its third season. Still, fans are already hoping for a Season 4.

After years of stunning fans on Netflix, Sonic Prime provided a shocking ending in Season 3 of the hit animated series.
Prime offered fans a new take on the world of Sega's Blue Blur, telling a wholly original (and shocking mature) story about Sonic The Hedgehog and his friends.
This critically acclaimed interpretation of the Sonic lore saw enemies become friends, and friends become enemies, in a narrative that ended with a confrontation of universe-altering consequences.

A nearly unrecognizable Sofia Vergara playing a cartel boss, a new retelling of the story of the Uruguayan rugby team that crash-landed in the Andes in 1972, Kevin Hart assembling a team for a daring heist and Dan Levy dealing with loss and grief are among the standout projects hitting Netflix this January.
Spanish director J.A. Bayona’s Society of the Snow lands on Netflix on Jan. 4. The film is the latest cinematic retelling of the miraculous story of the Uruguayan rugby team that crash-landed on a glacier in the heart of the Andes in 1972, with the survivors being forced to resort to extreme measures to stay alive. After debuting in Venice, Society of the Snow has picked up plenty of awards on the international film festival circuit, and it recently made the shortlists in four categories for the 2024 Academy Awards, including best international feature film.

It’s a quiet month on Netflix in January, but the streamer still has some good stuff lined up for the new year, including an interesting documentary about the Centra Tech cryptocurrency scam. When Netflix released its first-ever Engagement Report — a revealing look into what (and how much) people are watching within the streamer’s film and TV catalog — live-action adult and young adult series like Ginny and Georgia, The Night Agent and Fubar were among those that topped nearly a billion hours watched.
But between January and June 2023, seasons of animated originals Sonic Prime, Gabby’s Dollhouse, Barbie Life in the Dreamhouse, My Dad the Bounty Hunter and The Creature Cases also ranked among the 500 most-viewed series (out of 18,000), as did acquisitions like Paw Patrol, CoComelon, Pj Masks and Peppa Pig.
And while much of the streamer’s most popular animated content came from its kids and family programming, the report reveals new and previously released seasons of adult animation and anime entries like Castlevania, Love, Death & Robots, Bee and Puppycat, Disenchantment, Big Mouth, and Skull Island were among the top 22 percent of watched titles.

As the year winds down, it’s time to look back at Netflix’s biggest hits, and today, we begin by looking into what kids’ TV shows picked up the most points in the Netflix top 10s over the past 12 months.
This list is compiled using FlixPatrol data collected from the daily top 10s on Netflix from over 80 countries around the globe. They assign points and values to each title that gets featured on any day. Their data isn’t perfect as their method doesn’t quite fully capture the complexity of viewership data, such as total watch time, repeat viewings, or demographic details of the audience. Also worth noting is that Netflix changed up its top 10 metrics midway through the year to favor views over pure viewing hours. That said, their data provides a pretty accurate snapshot of what performed best over a long period.

PC and Mac players on a supported browser can simply use their mouse and keyboard to play the streaming games right on their device, while users who stream using Fire TV, Chromecast with Google TV, LG Smart TVs, Nvidia Shield, Roku devices and TVs, Samsung Smart TVs, and Walmart Onn devices can use their smartphone as a controller.

The reign of “Queen Charlotte” isn’t over yet. During the week of July 17-July 23, the Shondaland title joined Netflix’s most popular titles list at No. 10 with 80.3 million views to date. The “Bridgerton” prequel series opened on May 4 and earned 148.28 million hours viewed on the Netflix Top 10 chart during the May 1-7 viewing window, making the show the most-viewed title during the viewing window.
On the non-english side, “Bird Box Barcelona” leads the Netflix Top 10 this week with 19 million total views. A newcomer on the English-language film chart, “They Cloned Tyrone” cracked the list at No. 3 with 6.3 million views.

After two weeks reigning over Netflix’s English-language series, Season 3 of The Witcher has been dethroned. The Lincoln Lawyer Season 2 is the new champ for the week of July 10 to July 16 with 8.3M views across five episodes.
The first five episodes hit Netflix on July 6 and debuted at No. 2 on the list last week. The latter half of the season is set to release in August.
Audiences were also catching up with Manuel Garcia-Rulfo’s Mickey Haller in Season 1 of the legal drama, which soared to No. 5 on the English-language list with 3.4M views.
The Witcher didn’t fall far from its top spot, though it did experience a fairly significant decrease in viewership week-over-week. The first half of Season 3 is currently sitting in second place with 6.7M views, which is about half of the week prior’s nearly 14M views.

That’s because the biggest new arrival this month is the conclusion of The Witcher season 3 on July 27. It seems like only 29 days ago that The Witcher season 3 premiered. And that’s because it was! Now Henry Cavill’s arc as Geralt of Rivia is set to officially end with this batch of three episodes. Get ready for the Liam Hemsworth era, Witcher fans. Other Netflix Original series of note in July 2023 are The Lincoln Lawyer season 2 on July 6, Sonic Prime season 2 on July 13 and the animated comedy Captain Fall on July 28.

Writer Joe Casey has built a career in the superhero business, co-creating heroes such as Marvel’s America Chavez and playing in the sandboxes of classic properties Superman and X-Men. After more than 25 years, Casey found himself having questions about his relationship with the genre.
“Did it still speak to me? Did it still hold the same kind of relevance as it did when I was just a fan? Was it just childhood nostalgia that I was having trouble letting go of?” Casey tells The Hollywood Reporter. “How many other readers of my generation were feeling this ambivalence to something that meant so much to us since we were kids?”
Those were the questions swirling when he sat down to write Junior Baker, a five-issue series due out from Image Comics in August. The series centers on Daniel “Dizzy” Baker, a gonzo online journalist who chases superhuman stories in a...

The return of Jack Ryan to Amazon’s Prime Video pushed Wednesday out of the top spot on the streaming series rankings. Netflix’s Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery also had a big premiere, and Peacock landed its first original series in the top 10 the week before Christmas.
Jack Ryan, whose third season premiered all at once Dec. 21, led all series for the Dec. 19-25 frame, with just under 1.9 billion minutes of viewing. That was good enough to edge out Wednesday (1.8 billion minutes), which had a four-week run as the top series title in Nielsen’s rankings.
Both shows, however, came in behind Glass Onion, whose 2.23 billion minutes of watch time — equivalent to about 16 million full runs of the Rian Johnson-directed film — led all titles. The movie did all of its business in the last three days of the week, as it made its Netflix debut Dec. 23. It...

In its first full week of streaming availability, Rian Johnson’s “Glass Onion” became Netflix’s third most watched film, in terms of hours viewed over a title’s first 10 days following launch.
During the Dec. 26-Jan. 1 viewing window, the “Knives Out” sequel film, which dropped Dec. 23 on Netflix, raked in 127 million hours watched. Combining that stat with “Glass Onion’s” initial Christmas debut on the streamer, which drew in 82.1 million hours viewed, and the movie has now reached 209.4 million hours watched.
Per Netflix, that figure puts “Glass Onion” in third place, just behind “Red Notice” and “Don’t Look Up,” when it comes to the streamer’s most-watched movies in their first 10 days of viewership.

Tim Burton’s “Wednesday” was the most-watched title on Netflix for the fourth week in a row.
The series was watched for 174 million hours in the Dec. 12-18 viewing window after almost a full month of streaming. This puts it at at a total of 1.2 billion minutes watched since its debut, trailing just behind “Stranger Things” Season 4 (1.35 billion) on Netflix’s chart of the most popular English-language titles of all time, where it landed last week after usurping “Monster — Dahmer: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story.” Netflix measures its Most Popular charts based on hours viewed during a title’s first 28 days of availability, meaning “Wednesday” has only three days left before its tally is finalized and will presumably not be able to pass “Stranger Things.”
And after dropping its final three episodes on Dec. 15, “Harry & Meghan” beat its showing from last week, which had already made it Netflix’s biggest documentary debut of all time.

It’s almost the holiday season, which means that millions of travelers will soon find themselves in distant family members’ living rooms while Netflix blares on the TV. What Netflix shows and movies will be featured on those television sets? We now have a better idea as Netflix has released its list of new releases for December 2022.
It’s safe to say that movies are set to dominate this month. There is the usual holiday fare like Scrooge: A Christmas Carol on Dec. 2 but overall Netflix looks to be trying to end the year strong with some big ticket titles. Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio arrives on Dec. 9. That will be followed by Rian Johnson’s next Benoit Blanc detective story, Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, on Dec. 2. The end of the month closes out with White Noise, Noah Baumbach’s adaptation of the classic Don DeLillo novel, on Dec.
It’s safe to say that movies are set to dominate this month. There is the usual holiday fare like Scrooge: A Christmas Carol on Dec. 2 but overall Netflix looks to be trying to end the year strong with some big ticket titles. The winter holidays are rapidly bearing down upon us, so what better way to get into the festive spirit than by streaming, er, Denis Villeneuve's dramatic thriller "Prisoners"? Luckily, for those who are not in the mood to watch Hugh Jackman brutalize Paul Dano for two-and-a-half hours, there are plenty of alternate options to choose from on Netflix this December.
In keeping with tradition, the final month of 2022 will see an eclectic mix of genre films and TV series make their way onto the streamer, along with more than a few awards season hopefuls. The latter group's ranks include a new screen take on D.H. Lawrence's classic erotic novel "Lady Chatterley's Lover" and a movie adaptation of "Roald Dahl's Matilda The Musical." Then there are the latest films from multi-hyphenates Alejandro G. Iñárritu and Noah Baumbach ("White Noise"), on top of a pair of much-buzzed-about director-driven features that we will get to later.

Lionsgate is ready to hit the mean streets and consume floor chicken dinners for Derek Kolstad‘s adaptation of the Sega video game Streets of Rage. Kolstad, who created the John Wick franchise, is writing the rough-and-tumble adaptation based on the ’90s 2-D beat ’em-up brawler.
Brady Fujikawa and Jon Humphrey oversee the project for Lionsgate, with Shuji Utsumi and Toru Nakahara supervising for Sega. Dmitri M. Johnson manages dj2 Entertainment’s involvement, with Tony Shaw leading for Escape Artists.
“When Dmitri first mentioned the idea of cracking a Streets of Rage movie, I was so immediately freaking in. And to play with Sega? The 10-year-old me is still grinning,” said Kolstad.
“The game has a rich world and narrative, and we’re thrilled to be reuniting with Derek to bring it to life,” added Erin Westerman, President of Production at Lionsgate Motion Picture Group.

“Streets of Rage,” a popular beat ’em up video game that first hit the scene in the 1990s, is getting the big screen treatment. Lionsgate has landed the motion picture rights to the Sega game and has enlisted Derek Kolstad, no stranger to the world of broken bones and crushed ribs from his stint writing “John Wick” and its sequels. He will write the film and produce it, apparently fulfilling a childhood ambition (mine was to be James Bond).
“When Dmitri first mentioned the idea of cracking a ‘Streets of Rage’ movie, I was so immediately freaking in,” Kolstad said in a statement. “And to play with Sega? The 10-year-old me is still grinning.”
Kolstad’s pre-teen self may be in hog heaven, but the fact remains that most video game adaptations make for awful movies. For every “Sonic the Hedgehog,” there’s an “Assassin’s Creed” or “Warcraft.” Lionsgate seems undaunted by those odds.
