An excellent episode.
Sleepin_Dragon5 February 2021
Camille arrives on the island to assist Neville in finding the killer, and whoever it was attacked Catherine.

I know it was an anniversary special, but this was an awesome episode. It's true I was a little underwhelmed by the previous episode, but this more than made up for it.

The energy was here, the writing felt better, but if I'm honest the reason this felt so much better, and so good, Camille. The very presence of Camille somehow took this up a few notches, she really has been missed.

There's been so much speculation over the return of an old favourite, and that particular scene was very nicely done, not what I had expected, but well played out.

The mystery was good, even of some of the suspects literally vanished for almost all of the episode, however the story surrounding Catherine was big enough.

It's been great throughout this series to see more of Selwyn and Catherine, the trend continues, the pair were excellent again.

I've loved the show for years, this was a wonderful, nostalgic celebration. Long may it continue. 9/10.

Neville and Camille save the day.
studioAT7 February 2021
Warning: Spoilers
While the murder mystery element rather takes second place to the emotional elements, with the victims son largely doing nothing throughout, this was a good second part, with it being nice to see Camille back again.

The scene between her and 'Richard' was nicely done too.

It's a shame there wasn't more of her with Florence, and I'm wary about about this whole 'Neville loves Florence' angle they seem to be exploring, as we've seen that done similarly before, but on the whole this was good stuff.

So great to see familiar faces -

What keeps me coming back to this show are the charming characters that inhabit this island paradise. It was so fun to see previous characters make a appearances along with the new. The only thing that keeps me from giving it a 10 was the rehashing of the awkward English detective falling in love with the lovely local girl. Does this happen in real life, of course - but that's what makes it so ordinary and predictable. My favorite team was the last iteration. A great team, working together to make sue justice is done. That's all you need.

Prime example of weaving characters
kristanmarieanderson14 February 2022
This episode is another prime example of how the writers have brilliantly weaved characters in and out and back in and out of the series. It is tough to see characters (and actors!) come and go. And, i have rejoiced to get another small glimpse of them again. I have never seen a series to it so expertly and manage to avoid turning iff viewers. Thank you to the writers and actors for this joy.

As an anniversary special it was OK but ...
boxyfella11 February 2021
As a mystery it was too easy to solve, the 'who' and the 'why' were obvious from about half way in, but I admit the 'how' had me stumped. It was great to see Richard back of course, and that scene was beautifully handled.

I agree with Prismark10, the mugshot thing has always bothered me since the series started. It would be interesting to know how the police do such things in real life.

From 36.29 to 38.28 why we all watched
coynieuk9 February 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Is this a good episode of Death in Paradise No it is not why? well we had the old get the cook moment (hunt from red October) and a poor Sherlock Homes I remember/noticed something no one else did (sorry spotted it way before Neville did) conclusion not the shows best but to be fair it had been going for ten years so they cant all be locked rooms and Neville is lovely but he's not Richard sharp and prickly

Plus why was Florence sent away was there some covid reason or cant these to be on set for some reason together I mean Joséphine acting has been better then it was with Marshall's (initially fun) Clouseau performance she's back to the grandfather Jack level true Martins is better but Jobert and Martins were good together so sending her to the UK was a very bad idea could have worked if you'd have put Jack in the screen with her for fun but separating her from Neville and then having Camille work out Neville is doing a Richard and falling in Love with has amazing D.S. (every one can see it but him) was weird it was like a bit was missing and it was she was in London

I lead with the times on screen for Ben Miller i.e. DI Richard Poole now this is a scene every fan has been waiting for since 1 Nov. 2011 and thank you it was worth the wait two fantastic performers bring to life to amazing characters and doing what every one wanted just a pity one of them was dead but as poor as the episode was this was worth it I have rewatched this scene and these two are good at their jobs they just slip back into the emotion and the way they are able to flash use back was unnerving

I wonder who was setting what strait in this scene because it was truly like some one was saying they had regrets and you could not live with them particularly if yo had a chance to fix it

OK over all they were trying to mack sure every one was involved it didn't work I love the little (Young) Dwayne character but J,P, hasn't settled yet and turning a quick and clever kid into a jelly was bad (J.P. could have taken paternity leave and the DS's work with the new boy who uses his Dwayne skills to help the case) ev could jave been left to work with the boss who dose the same thing as with Poole and explains what it is he is feeling about the team and the DS this gives Nev the chance to show he understands why the boss feels so bad that some one was murdered and the effect it has had

We have seen Children's revenge for an injustice secret ID and the staff did it also the hidden lives on different islands so why not resolve the problems in the team the same way as before

As for the concern above about the Neville and Florence will they wont they I get it we have the lose of the love of her life and finding Neville in desperate need of help and support and friendship and protection and a lot else so she would fall in and do that the character is nice but remember it was supposed to be Madeleine. DS Dumas had gotten her up tight English DI to play in the sand like Camille had gotten her DI to do He Sat In the Sand with her paddled because of her and danced with her see were I am going. We could have a DS Camille Bordey and a DI Humphrey Goodman on our hands 2 years to set up a will they wont they to see some one leave and have to try and follow it through I hope it works and I hope they don't try to carry on regardless

Was this episode worth 2 parts no was it a good anniversary no we don't get to see any one because of the returning actors but that's not their fault it the writing you can do it if the returners fit in but because they had Catherine Bordey's life in peril we had to have her daughter front and centre I get it she would only come back because it was here mum OK but still that's the problem we get it explained in the Beach shot its not work that's keeping her away its Richard but the poor story doesn't allow for that with out a beach moment

So as I said Ten Years for two minutes and it was worth it so ten out of ten Thank you Ben Miller and Sara Martins for doing it. It really was worth the wait to see two very good actors on screen together again bringing to amazing characters to life (sort of) for one last time, we get a glimpse of what could have and should have been

And writers and producers learn from the Past don't force two characters together see what you can work out before going hell for leather regardless oh and J.P. will be a good role model for little Dwayne he was for Ruby

Episode 10.6
Prismark106 February 2021
Warning: Spoilers
With Florence conveniently sent over to London.

It allows DI Parker to team up with DS Camille Bordey who has flown over from Paris to see her injured mother.

Camille wants to find the person who attacked her mother. Only to be shocked that the culprit could be someone who died 20 years ago.

This two parter marks the 10th series of Death in Paradise. Hence the return of Camille and seeing another original character. Nice to know that Ben Miller managed to have a holiday abroad in 2020.

The plot was enjoyable and not at all how I expected. Great performance from Don Warrington who realised that Patterson was made a fool of all those years ago.

There was one thing that bothered me. Just when did DI Parker take the mugshots of the four suspects? Sorry that your husband and father was shot dead. Now can you just line up in front of the wall for a photo!

White Mischief
safenoe26 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I don't know why this episode doesn't have at least 9.9 on imdb. Anyway, this is the second of a two-part episode, with this part featuring the long awaited guest return of Ben Miller. Here DI Parker has feelings for DS Cassell, and one can only wonder where this will lead. The two-parter raised issues of black lives matter, white privilege, upstairs and downstairs.

It's still a shame that Madeleine Dumas (played by Aude Legastelois-Bidé) was written out after just over a season. Why?

Still not great!
harrykivi28 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
After being quite disappointed with the previous episode, I hoped this one to be a lot better. The sixth episode of the 10th season is an enjoyable episode, but still far away from the show's best in my opinion.

Let' s start with the good aspects, shall we?

. The production values of "Death in Paradise" are great as usual. The episode looks and sounds wonderful. The performances are very good too. Lia Williams and Niamh Cusack are pretty good in their roles. Don Warrington shows himself from a different light here as well. Sara Martins makes every scene with her so enjoyable and the cameo of Ben Miller was very beautifully handled. That cameo is definitely the best part of the episode!

. The mystery is decent for the most part. The solution ( Delford being the killer) while not ingenious, was satisfying indeed.

But...

. The humor mostly falls flat in this episode. The story seems to be going at something more serious, but all of the grimness of the narrative desolves, because of very cringe-worthy humor. The jokes about Marlon flirting with Camille just don't work and feel awkward at best.

. The mystery also felt more in the background while the drama with Catherine was in the foreground, which was not boring to watch ( I'm a huge fan of dramas), but felt a way not to deal with the "not-so strong" murder mystery.

. About the mystery. The murder mystery itself was not one of the strongest ones either. I did not feel there were enough twists and turns in the narrative (though there are few good ones here and there) and that every single one of the suspects were given motives for the murder. The mystery is not bad, but fine at best.

Overall, enjoyed it, but did not love it.

6,5/10 HK.
