Giant sisters and aquariums

'Phineas and Ferb' was one of the few Disney Channel shows in (relatively) recent years that was watched by me and my siblings, also Disney fans, since its inception and continued to watch completely hooked, the re-runs being holiday highlights. That's no joke. The earlier episodes are better than the later ones, funnier and more creative, but even when the show was not at its best it was better than quite a lot of the shows airing on Disney Channel, which has not been the same it used to be for years, at the time.

Neither "Attack of the 50 Foot Sister" or "Backyard Aquarium" are among my favourites for 'Phineas and Ferb', but there is more than enough in both to show what is great about the show. While there is a preference for "Attack of the 50 Foot Sister", which was the more consistent episode and had the better and more imaginative main plot, both are very good and each have many great things with very little wrong. Both are definitely recommended.

Both episodes could have had a little more time to breathe, especially "Backyard Aquarium" which also had the Candace and Jeremy subplot that didn't add very much.

"Attack of the 50 Foot Sister" however is terrific all round, really liked the premise of the Phineas and Ferb plot and it had some very imaginative moments when it got more chaotic as well as some typically smart and referential wit. It also had a hoot of a Perry and Doofenschmirtz subplot, hilarious in its weirdness with some great reactions from Perry (like when Doofenschmirtz talks about his trap), even greater lines from Doofenschmirtz and was also not too predictable.

Despite being slightly manic and not as imaginative in the main plot, "Backyard Aquarium" is still highly amusing and charming with enough variety to avoid it from being too repetitive. Even if the outcome is obvious in both the main plot and the Perry and Doofenschmirtz one, that didn't matter too much to me. Once again, Perry's reactions and expressions and Doofenschmirtz's lines really shine in their subplot. Both episodes are full of energy.

Furthermore, the animation is rich in vibrant colour and the attention to detail in the backgrounds is far from simplistic. The music is not always my first choice stylistically, but is typically catchy and pleasant. The theme song is still quotable and has yet to become too much of an earworm. The writing is intelligent, funny and tonally well balanced, neither too simple or too complicated. Love the characters and the voice acting is reliably strong.

Concluding, one very good episode and the other is terrific. Well worth watching. 8/10

"Attack of the 50 Foot Sister" & "Backyard Aquarium"

There's not much to say about these 2 episodes individually as they're both identical in terms of quality even though I slightly prefer 'AotFSS' over 'BA'. The first episode shows Candace accidentally turning herself 50 feet tall just so she could become a model for beauty products while the second episode shows the titular duo building a large aquarium and conducting a show featuring marine life. Both episodes have a Doofenshmirtz-Perry subplot that's ridiculous but funny. Both episodes have the same energy and both are equally funny with nothing that stands out. I just prefer the first episode as it focuses more on Candace while the second one focuses more on the adventure and a new pet we literally just met.
