A very strong end to the series.

Geordie finds himself heavily involved in the murder of a music producer, the prime suspect being his former army pal Johnny.

It's seems as though we've been building to a big Johnny story, and as expected he is the central figure in this series finale.

It's been a bit of a hit and miss series, but it has definitely ended with some real quality, this was an excellent way to round off the series.

The acting was fantastic, I thought all involved were fantastic, I must give praise to Robson Green however, he was superb here, his acting was on another level, we've learned a lot about Geordie in this series. Perhaps the best thing I've seen Shaun Dooley do.

Good to see Tristan Gemmill, seems like I've not seen him in anything for a while, very good actor.

It was nice to round the series off, I look forward to the next, 9/10.

Episode 6.8

Warning: Spoilers
Rita Daltrey is a jazz singer who is controlled by her manager and husband Gene. This includes being bullied and knocked about by him.

Geordie and Will call on her house after a phone call.

Later they are called again. This time it is Gene who has been shot dead.

Rita is a suspect and Johnny Richards is her solicitor and they seem rather close. Geordie thinks that Johnny might have killed Gene.

An unsatisfactory end of seasonal finale which seemed contrived. Leonard is suddenly released from prison.

Geordie's PTSD comes to the fore. Estranged from his family and having to confront his old friend Johnny regarding his feelings when they were in the prisoner of war camp.

It came across as silly. Johnny I am just about to arrest you for murder. Before that I just want to say that I prayed that night at the camp that they came to take you away instead of me.

Why do I keep watching?

Old habits...

As in every other episode I cannot fathom how or why a vicar becomes an accepted member of the police force -- sitting in on interviews (during which it seems no one takes notes,) chasing suspects, interviewing witnesses, etc. This fact alone makes me rate none of these episodes higher than a 5.

The non-mystery parts are a little more palatable, and seeing the characters evolve (even Mrs. C) is less eye-rolling than watching Will take on police duties.

The downward spiral of Georgie due to his PTSD becoming stronger after his former prison-camp friend surfaces was getting old, since he always seemed to drink too much anyway, and spend a lot of time "fancying a pint" rather than going home to his family.

Why are the season enders so stupid?

First. A few years ago, we had the final episode for James Norton. You remember, he fell for a black American girl and ran off with her, after knowing her for a week or so. Now, we have POW Johnny giving up his life for a woman who has no looks, or any appeal for that matter. But, she was of a certain persuasion so you are supposed to think that is normal. It makes me sad to give an otherwise tremendously acted episode such a low grade but they forced me to do it with their premise.
