Season Two Review
southdavid27 January 2021
The first season of Camp Cretaceous was a spur of the moment choice, to watch with my son on a Sunday morning only a couple of months ago. Whilst I didn't consider that season as being amazing, it was solid entertaining stuff and I looked out for this second season which we again watched together, over a weekend.

Still trapped on the Island, the five teenagers start to come to terms with the idea that getting off the island might not be as immediate as they hoped. With the Indominus Rex gone, life is easier, but there is still danger around every corner, as all the predators are loose. Having established a base camp and spending a few weeks on the Island, the kids see a campfire away in the distance and discover that they are not alone on Isla Nublar.

Season two has a nice little story arc, the kids come to recognise and work on their flaws somewhat whilst continuing to bond - but the real story comes in around half way through, when the eco-tourists voiced by Bradley Whitford and Stephanie Beatriz, as well as their "guide" Hap, voiced by Angus Sampson, join the cast on the island. It's immediately clear that all is not as it seems, and it's fairly easy to guess what's actually going on. More mysterious is the ongoing subplot, about frozen flowers and vents and what is behind the mysterious door that Brooklynn was investigating. It is not resolved in this season and creates some intrigue for a 3rd season that I hope will be forthcoming.

The show looks good solid. There's still much more definition on the Dinosaurs than on the humans, but that's fine. There's an occasional stop-motion look to the dinosaurs in movement, which was a little distracting but not terribly so.

If you're dead against the idea of a slightly toned down, family friendly addition to the "Jurassic" franchise, there's not really enough to win you over - but if you approach it with an open mind, then I do feel that it's a fun time.
