Very good episode.

The body of a well known scientist is found in the local Loch, Annika is on the case, but also has issues with Morgan.

I wasn't fussed on the last episode, maybe I was a little tired, this was a much, much better watch, I thought it was really, very good.

I enjoyed the conflicts going on in Annika's personal life, and the case itself was interesting.

It certainly benefited from the presence of Paul McGann, he is maturing like a fine wine!

Very good, 7/10.

Who's your daddy

Warning: Spoilers
This episode was not as compelling as the first two, but still Annika is definitely worth watching for the humor, drama, the sweeping river views from Annika's office, and the relationship between Annika and her daughter Morgan. Paul McGann (who was a Dr Who) enters the scene as Morgan's therapist, and Annika takes an immediate liking to him. What awaits, we shall see.

One character in this episode has an New Zealander accent, but some viewers may be confused because they think the actor doesn't look like a New Zealander.

Episode 1.3

The link with Ibsen's Enemey of the People is water.

Murdo Stirling is the dead body in a loch. He walked for an environmental charity dealing with water quality.

Annika soon discovers that Murdo was a charmless guy who most people disliked.

Annika also has to deal with a daughter going to therapy. Only for Annika rather fancies the therapist played by Paul McGann.

The foreplay between Annika and the therapist was rather forced. All the talk of union between Iceland and Denmark.

The reasoning for why Murdo was killed and how the murderer was caught seemed to be rushed.

Where's the Mystery?

If if you're looking for a good mystery series to watch, perhaps keep searching.

Many viewers dislike Nicola Walker continually interrupting the flow of the story to speak directly to the viewer. Actually that didn't bother me as much as some reviewers, but what is annoying is that the focus of every episode (yes every episode!), is not the mystery, but all of the the mother-daughter angst. It all becomes rather boring after awhile.

Nicola Walker plays a Dectective who's transferred from Norway to Scotland. Her teenager daughter isn't fitting in or making any friends which leads to all sorts of tension between her and her mother. In this episode her daughter begins seeing a professional therapist, who Nicola secretly (and later not so secretly) lusts after. Good grief.

Cinematically the filming location is spectacular. What a shame that they pair this amazing location with such weak mystery plots. In every episode so far, the mystery has taken a backseat to all the family anguish.

For a much better mystery, watch the excellent Vera or Shetland series!
