Good ideas not taken advantage of
supermellowcali5 January 2022
This was a mildly brutal "mystery" (a couple intense scenes) that has some potentially interesting ideas that seemed wasted with unnecessary drawn-out scenes that made it painfully slow and a strange end that didn't really seem to fit the story. Overall nothing special imo.

two competent actresses, surrounded by mediocrity
TomV19611223 January 2022
The acting in the movie is disappointing, except for the scenes featuring Jane Arcs (played by Eli Jane) and Master Xin (played by Joan Wong) who deliver strong and impressive performances.

Despite good direction, editing, cinematography, and story, the casting of the movie is flawed.

Eli Jane stands out in her strip inspection scene, turning what could have been a cheap and unnecessary T&A moment into a powerful and dominant display of her acting abilities, even while being fully naked.

mixed feelings

From the start the tension reigns supreme, whether it is the one who is watching the movie or the general atmosphere between the actors, you can sense it.

The film took me to a different world. I don't think any of us want to experience it, a world we see and hear about in the headlines and newspapers. Such stories have been filmed many times in different films and in different languages, in The Way it is so different that you live the event. And even participate in the decision within you. A woman was convicted 13 years ago of murder. Atrocities. What will the day of her execution be and how will she appear on it?!.

What are Bob and Frank's reactions?!

Barely makes it to a 2

Some good ideas that went no where and the movie had potential but it was just a mess overall. A few mediocre fight scenes were about the only parts really worth watching. The rest was a snore fest and I found myself using the fast forward for the majority of the useless scenes. Bad acting, horrible music, cheesy dialogue and could have been cut down to 20 minutes into a Twilight Zone or Outer Limits episode thing instead. This really was a 1 star movie but the lead actress had some guts to bare it all and actually did a better acting job than the majority of the characters. I hope Eli Jane and Joan Wong can find better agents because they both deserved better than this.

Dream Scenes and/or Hallucinations

Warning: Spoilers
Okay acting. Average action/martial arts. The storyline was scatter-brained. There were decent characters; but the progress of the action was only confusing. Did the "Chi" make the dream scene, hallucinatory stuff happen? The film did provide an insight into the minds of the insane; both those in prison, and those homelessly wandering the streets of our cities. Seen on Tubi, the free streaming site; which has many odd films, TV series, and even some live TV.

It's actually ok
julie-collfleming28 January 2022
MY partner put this on, I checked IMDB and rating was 3.7 normally I don't watch anything under 5.5 but my partner fell into a food coma after dinner...I think he sat on the remote as I couldn't find it so I left it on, BUT.... I was being more and more drawn into the movie and the character of Jane, I agree with some of the other reviews ...the storyline had a lot to potentially but was not executed (sorry about the pun) overall. That said the main character was really well acted, compelling and kept me engaged.....maybe some resinence to female affinity...but I have seen alot of awarded film festival, rubbish with worse actors.... It was actually Ok awarded 7 to balance the score and a reflection of the lead actor :)

death sentence
kenji-289617 January 2022
How do you face your death sentence, when it comes? If you have fair warning. Say, months or years. What responsibility do you take for your life and actions? What way will you find to meet death with equanimity? And how can you express to those not yet sentenced, the value of life remaining to us?

These are the themes of this movie. For those it speaks to on this level, it is well made and recommended. The use of qigong was imaginative.
