This is really dramatic but well told, shown, acted and directed. It's the psychological conflict between the present and memories of the past, a tragic one. Araci was a Brazilian (an Indian?) who lived in the Amazonian region and whose daughter was murdered by ranchers making her, her husband and her granddaughter to emigrate to Mertola in Portugal where past memories of Indian traditional values and customs still prevail in her mind and behaviour. Her husband dies and she and her granddaughter live in a truly floating house, bound at the river's bank. Her memories are so severe that she finishes to take her granddaughter to the Amazonian forest where she cries while seeing the criminal action of the timber-merchants against the beautiful trees. Important images of the movie are the big close-ups of human faces showing the two women's sentiments, feelings and reactions.
