I watched the American flavor Law & Order during its original 20-year- run and have re-watched reruns so often, I can often quote dialog. The most enjoyable thing about the UK version is watching how they've adapted episodes to British law and enjoying the scenery, trying to spot areas I recognize.
That being said, it's often been frustrating that episodes have been adapted line for line, plot twist for plot twist. I've only watched until this episode, so I can't say how much that's changed in later seasons. However, this episode felt different, so I went back and re-watched the original. I was ridiculously pleased to see a new plot twist -- in that George Castle stepped down from his job in order to defend his friend, something that could not have happened in the American version. Hopefully it's a step towards more fresh looks at the law. I don't want to watch a Law & Order UK that uses famous American cases -- it's not nearly as much fun.
