A superb piece, if graphically imperfect.

This team effort for an ESMA school project might not impress you in the first seconds, because the art certainly lacks the polish of a professional work with an adequate completion time. It is most obvious in aspects like the lighting and shadowing, for example.

Do keep watching however. The design largely makes up for it. The visuals are greatly creative. The soundtrack is superb, all music, no words, gracefully telling the story along the characters' dances. It's a wonderful ballet. This told by someone who fondly dislikes ballets.

And most of all, you'll be treated to a terrific story. The cycles of life and love might feel a little too accelerated to some of you - it's a very short film after all - but it's truly epic in scope and emotion.

a kind of ballet. aliens, plants, poetry of gestures and emotions. but so special that impress in a profound manner. no words, only the grace of music. almost a dream. or wake up. a film who gives you a strange state of soul. because it is about hope. and need of love. and the error who becomes root for sacrifice. colors, music, animation itself. like a refuge for rest and dream. the delicacy of story and actions of characters, the remember about the price to be yourself, the new image of reality. and, sure, the stone. for me,slice from childhood's fairy tales. same atmosphere. same emotion. and a form of magic out of definition.

An interesting and stylish animation

Warning: Spoilers
"Houma" takes place in some sort of surreal world, where strange beings and plants inhabit: The way in which the characters and events from this story is graceful and stylish, almost as it were some kind of animated ballet. There isn't any dialogue in this short, only music, which goes very well with the animation.

While the CGI isn't entirely perfect, I liked the stylish aesthetic of the main characters designs, which despite being weird were also pleasant to watch. In some ways, this reminded the animations done by René Laloux, and that's a good thing.

delicacy

the delicate story. and the delicacy of dance. the delicate characters. and the precious message. each, all define this beautiful animation, great homage to love and nature. a fairy tale who reminds images from the childhood. admirable musical choice who transforms the film in the seed for unique state of soul. this small detail does Haoma real special. like a song of small things. like a poem about life. because it is a poem in image. one who, for long time, remains a magnificent memory. sure, technical is far to be the perfect animation. but it has the gift to be a perfect short film. and this is more than a simple virtue.
