This was the final story of In Suspicious Circumstances. Edward Woodward expected to present more episodes but the show got embroiled in a copyright infringement lawsuit by other writers.
Charles Edward Luard (Tony Steedman) had retired from the army to the country with an honorary rank of Major General. He was elected as a councillor and was also a magistrate. His wife Daisy was 12 years younger than him.
On August, 1908, the couple left their home for a country walk. They parted ways as Charles Luard needed to to the local golf club. Daisy was due to get back to her home as she was expected to meet with a visitor.
Only she never did arrive home. Charles Luard went looking for her and found her dead body. Daisy had been shot twice, her purse and rings were missing.
Although Charles Luard was never suspected for his wife's murder. He received poison pen letters from some locals. There were rumours in the village that either Charles or Daisy had a lover. Maybe Charles killed his wife in order to be with his mistress.
Daisy's killer was never found. The poisoned pen letters destroyed Charles Luard, he would later kill himself.
An atmospheric but slight story. It was well acted by Tony Steedman but felt it could had been fleshed out more.
