Not only is the main character's name "Mira" an anagram for "Irma", but "Irma Vep" is an anagram for "Vampire".
At 10:15, Irma (Vikander) illustrates the number three by holding up her thumb and first two fingers. This is a common way for Europeans to indicate the number three, while Americans tend to hold up their first three fingers and keep the thumb down. This shibboleth (an idiosyncratic cultural identifier) is also illustrated by Vikander's husband Michael Fassbender in Inglorious Basterds
Olivier Assayas offered Maggie Cheung the role of Jade Lee, based on herself, but Cheung refused, arguing she really doesn't act anymore. Still, Assayas found a way to have her appear on the show, which is by using images of 1996's Irma Vep.
Olivier Assayas remakes his 1996 film (of the same title) with this miniseries. While most roles have been recast, Alex Descas plays the same role in both versions.
