Four actresses turned down the role of Comagirl before Doris Pham Guerrero accepted the part. Among the reasons cited were: "It's not a speaking role." Comagirl does have plenty of dialogue. It's telepathic, but it's in the script, and it's in the film.
One of the people involved in the shoot (who was one of the film's strongest supporters from the beginning) revealed during the lunch break on the shoot that they have an aunt who is in a coma.
Bonnie Raitt's people turned the filmmakers down for permission to use one of her songs for the end credits, so director Jonny Lewis sat down and wrote his own song. He then called upon singer/guitarist Dahni Piro to perform the song, "Cleanup Man." Jonny and Dahni had acted together in German filmmaker Stefan Zierock's film, "One More Day," in 2008.
