Cool art film
becketdriveby31 January 2009
I saw this film at a screening a few weeks ago in Downtown LA, during Los Angeles Art Month at the Democracy Forum at the National Center for the Preservation of Democracy Auditorium (across from The Geffen Contemporary at MOCA). This is a really cool art film, it reminded me of Hitchcock meets Todd Haynes type of deal. The actress that played the teacher had great emotional range (you can't keep your eyes off of her) and the other actress that played the cleaning woman was very strong as well. The editing and cinematography are well done for a short film. There are some really strange but interesting juxtapositions of religious images from Bosch paintings, as the story progresses. It's the kind of movie where if you watched it the again, you probably would discover more nuances. I don't think everyone will get into this, I would guess most won't (it is not your typical Hollywood film) but if your into art-house type films and like Bosch paintings, it's a slam dunk.

"Discarded" is a phenomenological piece of work, full of complex relationships and meaningful connections.

"Discarded" is a screenplay that is full of complex relationships and meaningful connections. The writers, Daniel Young and Daniel Forrest, created a phenomenological piece of work that allows the viewers to develop a meaningful, psychological connection between themselves and the two characters, Sandra and Lauren. The actors who portrayed Sandra and Lauren, Katelyn Lynn Clark and Justine Hartley, performed brilliantly, enhancing the endearing qualities of these characters. Other meaningful connections are experienced between the two characters and their environment and between the environment and the viewers. Deep thoughts, difficult emotions, and significant meaning underly the plot of this screenplay. "Discarded" is an amazing piece of work that viewers will want to experience more than once. Viewers should not be surprised when they encounter new meanings and enhanced insight each time they watch this screenplay.
