A repeated delivery of clichés.
Zwanger & co is a new romantic comedy directed by Johan Nijenhuis, the director of Moroccan wedding and De Beentjes of Sint-Hildegard.

The film is about the single midwife Merel (Lieke van Lexmond), who is unable to hook the perfect partner. Because her biological clock is ticking, she ultimately chooses to get pregnant through a sperm donor.

In addition to Merel, others of her family, some of which are undesirably in conflict with their biological clocks and children's wishes. Together as a family they try to help each other during these times of their family expansion.

Because the many characters have the same wishes and experience almost the same events, but with some slight variation, this film quickly comes across in a repetitive way of itself and the many other Dutch romantic comedies. The different storylines of the different family members also overshadow each other more than they really work well together, which can make the film a bit messy and so uninteresting.

The script writers also do little to make the story something special compared to other Dutch Comedies and so the film quickly ends up in a confinement of clichés. Director Johan Nijenhuis, like the story of this film, is also somewhat repetitive with other films directed by him.

Also, due to the amount of characters in the growing family, most of the film's actors don't get many opportunities to do anything special with their roles compared to the acting they've done in other films.
