A farm boy, David Shepherd, serving on the front lines in an ongoing war with the neighboring nation of Gath, rises to instant celebrity when he rescues the King's son after he is captured by Gath forces and is photographed standing face to face with a tank nick named Goliath. Of course he gains the King's favor becoming a useful pawn in the King's political machinations but inadvertently leads to a falling out between the King and his son.—David Foss
- This episode introduces David Shepherd (Christopher Egan), a private in a war that has been waged for over 25 years. David, in an act of heroism, rescues two soldiers who are held hostage just behind the enemy lines. In the process, he confronts a "Goliath" tank and destroys it, killing its crew, bringing a subtle change to the status quo of the war. One of the soldiers turns out to be the son of the King, Jack Benjamin (Sebastian Stan). Regaled as a hero, he is invited to the palace for a banquet in his honor. There, he is promoted to the rank of Captain and given the position of Military Liaison to the press. A position coveted by the King's son, Jack. With this sudden change to the status quo, the King decides to push the advantage and go onto the offensive against the enemy. King Silus Benjamin (Ian McShane) attempts to use David as a pawn, only to find that David has a mind of his own. And an eye for the King's daughter, Michelle Benjamin (Allison Miller).
