If you hate the vloggers in American society you should enjoy this.
frankblack-799614 October 2021
Overall the movie is slow. Things start happening that any person with an ounce of common sense would see as warning signs and leave. So if you want to see 2 stupid and vain vloggers go to a psychos house than this is for you.

Dumbest Protagonists Ever
kaideneve23 September 2021
Overall, Superhost is a decently fun watch. It has good production value and and a standard, fairly formulaic script for a slasher. The killer has some great moments and kudos to the actress for a solid performance.

That said, I've seen toddlers put up more of a fight than the victims in this film. They are literally useless at defending themselves in any coherent fashion, which takes a lot away from the overall suspense. Good for a couple of laughs.

The title should have been "The Rental of the Creep"
gedikreverdi5 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The best things about the film was the actor who plays Rebecca and Barbara Crampton although we didn't get to see her that much. I hated Rebecca's character and that's how I understood she did a really good job. The last time I felt like this about an antagonist was "Better Watch Out". It was too obvious that that creepily upbeat woman was going to kill them and she's not the owner. Before getting killed the woman got to record a video but everyone thought it's just another clickbait. The killing of Teddy was right out of Creep but it was not as scary. The scenery (the spot where Teddy proposed to her) and the house and the acting from Rebecca were good. I can't tell the same for the script. The fact that they didn't even attempt to defend themselves was a bit too absurd and who agrees to stay in a house where there's a camera at every corner?!

Starts out OK then just becomes stupid
goods1169 September 2021
Would love to see a horror movie where the actions of tho protagonists were not totally stupid. The last 20 minutes could not have been dumber.

A short and fun watch.
its-me66113 September 2021
If you know what you are getting into, it can be a fun watch. The trailer does a good job of showing what to expect.

7/10

Teddy and Claire visits the house of Betty and Lou with the intention of shooting for their travel vlog. They are welcomed by Rebecca who seemed odd at first and downright scary as the time passes.

There are only four person in the film. The low budget feel is very evident. The story is very straight forward but the characters make it a fun watch. There are some sub plots which was okay but I felt that the film could have focused more on our superhost than those silly stuff.

The amount of blood and gore is very low and shows up late in the short runtime of 84min. I would have rated it little lower if not for Rebecca. I really liked her character and was rooting for her. The odd smile, long stare and goofy dialogues made her character oddly likable. Cinematography is good when we are not seeing the footage from the camera. There are few jumpscares here and there but I would not recommend it to someone who is looking for something scary.

Gracie Gillam as Rebecca has done an amazing job. If you liked the Creep(2014) you will like this as well. I liked it very much for the 2nd half. I liked how it ended and the sort of massage it tried to convey.

Rather mundane and generic...
paul_haakonsen5 October 2021
I sat down to watch the 2021 horror movie "Superhost" without knowing what it was about. And trust me, if I had known that it was another pointless movie about vloggers, I wouldn't even have given the movie a second glance.

Regardless, I ended up watching this, as I had the opportunity to watch it and not knowing what it was about. I have to admit that I was lured in by the movie's cover/poster, which definitely was an interesting one.

The storyline, as written by Brandon Christensen, whom also directed the movie, was sort of a mixed bag of nuts. I don't enjoy movies about ego-centered vloggers and their pathetic quests for likes and subscribers. It is just a pathetic trend that permeates the social medias of today's society. And it doesn't really make for great entertainment. But then again, the disturbing behavior and personality of Rebecca in this movie was actually interesting enough. So there was a swing and a miss part to the movie, but also an interesting part to the movie.

Needless to say that I didn't care one bit about the vlogging aspect of the storyline, nor did I care about Clair and Teddy, the two vloggers. But I will say that Sara Canning and Osric Chau were good enough performers, but were just given bad characters to portray. It was definitely nice to see Barbara Crampton showing up in the movie, despite only for a short while. Now, I have to say that "Superhost" was carried solely by the performance of Gracie Gillam, playing Rebecca, because her performance was just spectacular.

For a horror movie then "Superhost" was a swing and a miss, it was generic and predictable to the point where it was painful to sit through. There is nothing scary or exciting in the movie, unless you consider vlogging at the top of entertainment.

My rating of "Superhost" lands on a generous three out of ten stars. It would have been rated lower had it not been because of the performance from Gracie Gillam.

I wish I had a (super) host like this
petarilic327 October 2021
Movie is fun, fast paced, entertaining, thrilling - very well spent 80 minutes!

Rebecca is an icon. Actress did a perfect job here. She's hilarious! Funny, scary, crazy - makes a perfect combination. In a lot of ways this reminded me of Creep(which I liked).

Now as for the negatives, protagonists are REALLY hard to like, I kept rooting for Rebecca the entire movie. Both of them have horrible flaws and unlikable personalities and it shows.

Would love seeing a prequel/sequel.

I really wish I could give it a higher rate but I feel like something is missing despite not knowing what exactly.. For now let it stay at 6.5/10.

Ridiculous film
phantasmda17 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The first half of this film was ok, it set things up nicely, nothing you haven't seen before but still watchable.

The premise has been put down in so many other reviews, so I won't bother writing the same thing here but safe to say the 2nd act of this film is so unbelievable and stupid, it literally has you shouting swear words at the TV.

You are being chased by a crazed murderer with a knife, do you A: run away until you find help?

B: Get into you car and drive away to find help?

Or C: run into the killers house and stare out of the window until they come to the house and get you?

If you guessed it was C, then that's exactly right, that's what these 2 morons, we are supposed to be rooting for, do.

Then when they are in said house, there's a kitchen with all sorts of big knives lying around and they choose to stand there, looking out of the window completely unarmed and then run around screaming when the killer shows up.

Oh and did I mention that the killer is a dainty, 5ft 2 woman with a pocket knife, yet she manages to completely overpower 3 people, one of them a man, and kill them all without any kind of resistance whatsoever. None of the 3 clowns, sorry, protagonists, put up any sort of fight, they're all killed in big open spaces, so there's plenty of room to escape, grab a weapon or throw a bloody couch at her if they choose to, but nope, they all just stand there and let this women attack them, it's absolutely infuriating.

The guy in this film is so painfully woke and weak that he literally just melts down and shakes instead of protecting his girlfriend. I could understand that if he was being chased by Dave Bautista or Dwaine Johnson with an axe but he's being chased by a tiny woman with a flick knife, it's bonkers.

I've given the film 3 stars only for Gracie Gillem's performance, she does go from cute, the really weird to just absolutely insane and she does it so effortlessly, that it's hard not to give her credit for it, it's just a shame her talents go to waste in such a poorly scripted mess of a film.

Lazy
bgmagic224 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Im so sick of lame movies with unlikable characters who won't even attempt to fight back. Just standing around waiting to be killed. It was literally 2 against 1 woman with a knife. Instead of swinging the long fire poker in your hand, you stand there inviting her to walk up & stab you with a pocket knife? Where's the horror? We want to see relatable ppl fighting for their lives, not whatever this crap is you're making now. This is exactly I'm cancelling my subscription. Lazy script, Lazy story, Lazy writing, Lazy directing. The end.

Gracie Gillam for the most likeable villain of 2021.

Stand out of the movie, with the great location 2nd place.

A lot like Creep 1&2 but enough of its own flavor to be a delightful watch.

Teddy and Claire were pretty meh, definitely the Rebecca show

worth a watch.

Other than Teddy being the biggest pansy in history....
krahnic-4457621 November 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Not a horrible movie, but honestly, by the last 20 mins, I wanted to kill teddy myself lol. He watches his gf get murdered, has a fire poker for a weapon, and the tiny woman takes it off him like candy from a baby and stabs him. If that was me watching my girlfriend get killed, there would be some serious homerun swings to her noggin. "Swing away Merrill. Swing away" - Signs lol

Anyways, like I said, wasn't terrible.

Pointless
ropelawshiel3 September 2021
All rather pointless, I found myself rooting for the villain (a great take on a female Joker). The two leads were such wets; I cared not what happened to them; too many obvious things that one would do they did not.

Usual cop-out ending (I think writers these days have lost their imaginations Ahhh, Game of Thrones comes to mind.

Better Than Some Recent Big Budget Horror
flowerstardust197921 September 2021
Although I probably wouldn't watch this again it was entertaining. I've watched a few big budget horrors recently and they were all so boring and ridiculous. Superhost was low budget, simple but entertaining.

I was expecting a twist at the end and was hoping my theory was correct but alas it wasn't.

Worth the 90 minutes though. If you're tired of remakes and unoriginal stories this may be worth your time if you like a little bit of crazy/psycho horror.

A weak and pointless exercise
Chi-C-Dawg20 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
There's a lot of influences here. Most noticeably Creep and some other found footage. But the point in the end that vloggers aren't the best people is already established early on. I actually stopped the movie just to see how much longer I had. It's kind of boring, one note, and the main characters who both die at the end are pretty pathetic. Just sort of laying down to die. Everyone's praising the performance of Rebecca but I found her grating and very one note. There's just not much to praise here and it's not very fun.

Beta cuck, Teddy.
donttouchmeprimate19 September 2021
He can't or won't do anything manly, he won't even try. It's weird to see his character just stumble through every scene and constantly be the weakest person on screen. Osric Chau is a good actor but this film seemed as though he was just put in there as a plot point rather than have anything significant to do.

Sarah Canning was very good, Barbara Crampton is Barbara Crampton. The real star of this film was Gracie Gillam, sure her character was very one-dimensional and basic but she really made it work the best it could, and for that I will forever be a fan.

Teddy though, as useful as one of those internal farts that you do that kind of bubbles in your tummy and you're not sure if you're going to die because of it. Usually you don't but you never know...

There really was no script here. Acting was very average although they had nothing to work with. Short movie that could have been 30 mins shorter.

Watch the movie. Don't listen to the negative reviews
rasull-ramad6 September 2021
I was entertained and enjoyed it very much. Could have been an 8 if the lead guy doesn't make some illogical decisions. Like turning on the lights instead of wandering in the dark and a few more stupid actions which i cannot reveal here.

Its a solid thriller that made me jump from my seat.

Best part is and probably the highlight of the movie is the performance of the main villain. The plot is nothing new and you probably can guess what's about to happen next. It is really well put together so its a solid 7 from me.

Entertaining but forgettable
ericdhall775 September 2021
These have to be two of the most stupid characters ever in the lead roles. If you don't believe me, just watch for yourself. Nice, original idea that's ruined by execution and poor writing.

If you liked "Creep", you'll love this!
kyliestedman7 August 2023
You know going in what style of horror this movie will be. It's supposed to be exactly how it is, and unless you've watched A LOT of horror movies, you just won't get it.

It's very very fun. The acting really is top notch and everyone gave it their all.

This movie doesn't lay everything out all at once, just leaving it to the regular slasher theme and pace of the 2000's- there so there are still moments that you may not see coming so it manages to keep interest.

I'm rating this movie for what it is within its section of horror, how well it was executed and how everyone worked together.

Hell, it got me to write a review about it.

Liked the film
kmagee-718097 September 2021
I dunno why but I liked this film. The concept was a little underdeveloped to be honest like there wasn't much backstory but sometimes that's good but for this particular film I wanted some type of backstory. I also thought the climatic point after the "prank" so to speak was a little too quick but also worked well which is strange to say I know. I think that Gracie Gillam's acting/character was amazing!

Overall feel like I've been contradicting with my review but basically I liked the film and the ending was well thought of.

Two people I don't care about, doing a vlog I don't care about, plus a cartoon villain
selfdestructo10 March 2022
Wow, was I disappointed with this one. I felt like the entire movie and characterizations were ill-conceived. First turn-off: Self-centered protagonists who thinks the world is interested in their personal lives. Second turn-off: What is the audience for this vlog? Two people go around reviewing rental homes, and talk to the owners? It's mind-numbing just to read about, and our two stars make the show REAL exciting. "Superhost!" What a dumb concept. And somehow getting one crazy person on film is going to totally turn around their financial crisis. Turn-off #3: Rebecca. She is played so wacky and unrealistically, that it makes it impossible to believe her as menacing (as the music would suggest) when it came time for her to be that way. I thought I'd at least enjoy this performance. It is all wrong. I mean, in this age of OTT DC supervillains, has this aspect actually leaked into horror movies? (Yeah, a horror movie with no tension, scares, or anyone to care about).

One thing intrigued me, and it's a plotline that was never pursued. When Vera (Barbara Crampton) shows up, she says "these people aren't who they say they are." Hm, that's intriguing. Who are they, and what are they actually up to? Well, we never find out. That is, if they actually weren't who they said they were. Oh yeah, this little vlog caused her complete financial ruin. Go figure.

EDIT 03/15/22: I think I hated this movie more than a 3. I did pay good money for it, so in an attempt to reverse my losses, I sat through maybe the sorriest assortment of extras ever put to Blu-ray. The shorts are horrible (with horrible CGI), even the bloopers were lame (see an actress repeatedly ALMOST sneeze!), but what took the cake was the visual fx featurette. Literally could've been 20 seconds long, detailing the gore effects. Nope, the computer screen was altered, someone's cell phone had the time added, they edited in a different license plate. You get the idea. Oh, big surprise, the director likes to film himself talking. These were even less entertaining than this unentertaining movie.

What a threat!
pomeu-6385025 September 2021
A 130lb woman with a knife! Oh no! Anyway, this movie is complete garbage. There simply is no plot, zero story. Unless you count a couple squabbling about not getting enough hits on their YouTube site. I can't imagine even YouTubers would find that interesting.

The movie is short, only 80 minutes, but I wish it was shorter. 8 min would have been enough. Somehow, the ending makes sticking around even more upsetting.
