Vipco are back from the dead and it's quite a decent start

Vipco were a rather notorious British video distribution company founded by the colourful Mike Lee. In the 1980's they put out movies such as The Driller Killer and Zombie Flesh Eaters, later on they latched on to the DVD market but sadly the brand disappeared in 2007. Thankfully Vipco are back but with new owners, including one Peter Goddard, whom I have had the pleasure of speaking with via social media. As the title suggests this is a horror anthology, "The One" serving as the obligatory wraparound, and features a mix of very low budget British and American short films. As is always the case with anthologies some stories are stronger than others and this is no exception. "The Nurturing" is very short but has something creepy under a bed. "The Weed Whacker Massacre" (from Crap Films, ha ha) features a possessed killer electrical lawn strimmer, totally mad but good gory fun (it was directed by one Ben R Dover!). This was my favourite segment. "Dead Air" has an all female rock band on a private flight, also onboard are case of Gremlin like critters, needless to say they escape and carnage ensues. This was my second favourite story. "Jax in Love" is set in the desert and has a psycho female hitcher, some few good moments but could've been better. Finally "Priest Hunter" finishes the individual stories off, another very short entry. It has a brutal kill scene but not much else. "The One" wraps things up early on in the closing credits, this story features a horror obsessed man who kidnaps young women and holds them hostage, tied up. This was filmed by Vipco themselves, TS Elliot is wooden as the man but Abby Wareham is very attractive, in her bid for freedom she does make a glaringly bad mistake but at least we get to see more of her in her skimpy underwear! I enjoy horror anthologies, despite its low budget overall I found this to be fairly enjoyable and I hope to see plenty more from Vipco.
