Not letting the success of Ape vs Monster go to waste The Asylum is back with Ape vs. Mecha Ape. This time they’ve brought in Marc Gottlieb to write and direct. While it’s only his second feature, the other was Cousin Howard back in 1995, and the first one for The Asylum he’s written several scripts for them including Jungle Run, 2025 Armageddon, and Aquarium of the Dead. Can he kick the franchise into gear after its dismal first film?
Ape vs. Mecha Ape opens with a chemical weapons plant that looks like an old warehouse being attacked by what looks like the giant ape Abraham. A few explosions later we see that it’s actually a giant, well-armed, robot which makes short work of the plant’s security.

In the past I’ve often talked about how I spent my teenage years basically living in the local video shop, renting title after title – mainly from the pound a week section. Now that particular section of my local video store consisted mainly of older titles that the majority of people weren’t renting any more, most of which were from the late 80s/early 90s. So I had a plethora of films that many now consider ‘classics’ to watch… I say this not to brag but to give some context to why I adore The Unhealer so much… It feels like it stepped directly out of that era of filmmaking. In the best way possible.

Grimmfest have today announced the launch of their Grimmfest Easter Edition, a new annual event taking place over the Easter Weekend, and complimenting the long-established festival in October.
Easter is traditionally a time for rebirth, renewal, resurrection. But as the Pandemic continues to rage, and the world remains on lockdown for the foreseeable future, it is also a time for rethinking. Thus, while the Grimmfest team had hoped to be hosting a ‘live’ Easter event, instead, the Grimmfest Easter Edition will be taking place online, and will build on the success of Grimmfest 2020 online experience.
The festival will open on Thursday April 1st with our preview night that will feature the UK premiere of Kourosh Ahari’s surreal and sulphurous Iranian American haunted hotel horror The Night, which has already earned deserved comparisons to Kubrick’s The Shining, alongside the UK premiere of Lluis Danes’ visually ravishing reimagining of the...

Natasha Henstridge is set for a lead role opposite Vinessa Antoine in CBC’s Diggstown drama series created by Floyd Kane (Across the Line).
Written by Kane, Diggstown is set in the gritty arena of legal aid. It centers on Marcie Diggs (Antoine), a star lawyer who reconsiders her priorities after her beloved aunt commits suicide following a malicious prosecution. Landing at a legal aid office in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Marcie is driven by one thing – to never again allow innocent lives to be destroyed by the justice system.
The team of lawyers that Marcie works with are a curious band of do-gooders, cynics and scrappers – messy souls struggling to keep personal disappointment and demons out of their practice as they work directly in the community to find justice for their diverse clients, exploring issues of racism, poverty and gender bias.

In today’s film news roundup, a spy thriller is set for a September start, “Permanent Green Light’ gets distribution, and “The Unhealer” wraps shooting.
Production Start
Producers are planning a September start for writer/director Daniel Lusko’s spy thriller “Quandary” about a CIA operative with Ptsd, Variety has learned exclusively.
Lusko joins forces with Doug McKay (“What to Expect When You’re Expecting”), Dennis Rice (“Charming”), Mark Kamine (“Bad Moms”), Tom Sanders, and Tommy Goodwin to produce the film, which will be shot in Hawaii and Los Angeles.
Lusko said the story is inspired by true events and addresses the psychological effects of post-traumatic stress disorder on American intelligence operatives. He also asserted the story has been vetted and endorsed by FBI officials and CIA operatives.
The story centers on a CIA operative who struggles to maintain his sanity after an explosion where he sees his wife and son killed.
