A middling affair!
mayankshukla140425 July 2021
Binge watched Chutzpah streaming on Sonyliv which is a refreshing take on cyber world and its role in our lives. Social networking has a massive significance today and the show explores the dark sides to it as well. What works in its favour is a fresh and relevant concept pulled off with sincere performances and a brilliant cinematography. The short duration of episodes is another plus and it doesn't really tests your patience. On the flip side the show could have been more intriguing and falls short of expectations which were decent in the first place. At the end it somehow fails to leave the desired impact. Overall you could give it a try if you are looking to watch something hatke.

In this age of digital world and with all the changes in the entertainment industry, this series has showed us how this can be boon and also vain. Very well written and also executed. Little slow but still watchable.

Wonderful script and acting. Good to see something new , some new type of webseries (not that typical nationalism selling series).

Concept was good but another muvi on misogyny and men being on the negative side.
ekagrarawat1011 August 2021
The concept was good, tried few concepts of dark web, showed how social media dominates in lives of us in today's era, but they have tried much to show men and guys in negative way, like guys are always selfish, non-caring, horny, and sexist etc...they've also shown that boys locker room thing, which wasn't even real, and didn't even mentioned about girls locker room, this series is clearly sexist and promotes toxic feminism.

kingsaurav-8988224 July 2021
Saw without reading any reviews, directly and loved it! Starting ke episodes are witty, funny and last ones are emotional. Original concept and great stories. My advice is don't watch the series in one go, absorb each episode and you will love it too. Last tak aate aate one time watch lagne lga but I still want Season 2 soon. Loved it, love Maddock Productions. Keep bringing such webseries. Great work by all actors and actresses.

It's wild butterfly.

So the people who watched Netflix's " The Social Dilemma " gonna love this too. Yeah it's about pros and cons about social platforms. But take on this with whole new style is Amazing. And probably those who don't like The social Dilemma documentary. This is also for you. There are so many real life things refference in there. Literally reference in such as reference of social media influencers with bold statements.

Okay I'll tell you that it's definitely a must watch. Trailer not showcased what's in store for you properly. Especially finally we got to see real Varun Sharma in this. Means he mostly played that comedy guy in most of his movies, series etc. But here we get to see something new from him. And also this new intro of sonyliv series is so lit. I'm mean after scam1992 sonyliv must be so harsh on their editors may be trying to bring some beautiful intros. I haven't skipped any of the intros of any episode. Story is well paced and very connected with every person.

So wish everyone atleast give it a try.

Chutzpah...it is
sameerlodaya23 July 2021
The series will offer you utter nonsense and nothing else..the title it self identifies the nature of series

There is no story to execute the bunch of stars are just talking, chatting, video calls..the series doesn't resemble internet negativity which they tried to show..the series was going headless

The makers had good collection of actors but failed to get the best out of them

You have good options on this weekend unless if you want to see what a chutzpah is.

You should watch
parthhukum1 August 2021
I dont know why are people calling it waste of time. Those who are calling it a waste of time, half of them have surely watched half of it or first few episodes. It is a very good show. I also didn't like it, the first few episodes. But then till the end i loved it. It shows you the darker side of social media. Yes , i agree there isn't a very strong storyline but the message and feeling is very strong. It is well executed. Guys, this is something new people are bringing. Instead of erotica, drama and terrorism related shows, they are daring to bring this. Its very unique. Some mistakes can be ignored. Agar iss tarah ke naye content ko appreciate nahi karenge on its initial stages, we wont get new and innovative content.

One Time Watch With Poor Execution of Story !!!
cs_rahul_prasad23 July 2021
In the 21st century, most people use the Internet on a daily basis, but there is more to the global network than meets the eye. Helmed by Simarpreet Singh, this series exposes the often-disturbing darker side of the Internet through the lens of five inter-connected stories. Kevin (Gautam Mehra) aspires to be a social media influencer and is obsessed with the number of likes, shares, and comments on his posts, as well as drawing the attention of a well-known influencer, Deepali (Aashima Mahajan). His flatmate, Prateek (Kshitij Chauhan), is constantly active on dating apps with a goal of getting laid with all the attractive girls in town at least once before blocking them forever. He's only concerned with keeping up with his "hottie in town" image on his guy's group, where everyone just brags about the women they've hooked up with. Then there's Rishi (Manjot Singh), a shy guy who doesn't have much going on in his life other than stalking Richa (Pranali Rathod) and trying hard to talk to her, with the rest of his time spent watching porn. He even registers on a pornographic website, where he meets Wild Butterfly (Elnaaz Norouzi), a girl who satisfies his desires while also serving as his life coach. Lastly, there's a hardcore Punjabi guy, Vikas (Varun Sharma), an app developer who recently relocated to the United States. He is in a long-distance relationship with his college sweetheart Shikha (Tanya Maniktala).

The writers (Amit Babbar and Mrighdeep Singh Lamba) have explored the internet activities occurring in and around the so-called dark web by focussing on these five stories. This is the place where Internet surfers would want to go to indulge in those fetishes and desires that they'd rather keep out of the public eye. However, the series also examines how the technology that makes the web possible is now insinuating itself, more and more, into everyday life. Here, nothing stays hidden forever! Overall, the plot revolves around the characters' various personas in the real and social worlds. For instance, Wild Butterfly aka Sara Khan aspires to be an actress but ends up working for a porn site to make ends meet. Deepali, who has millions of followers and is always upbeat on social media, is in fact self-conscious about her body and lacks confidence.

Character development is in place, and, unfortunately it resonates with the audience more than the plot. Varun Sharma and Tanya Maniktala's love story is somewhat endearing. Tanya (known for playing the lead in 'A Suitable Boy') makes the most of her limited screen time. Varun and Manjot, the reunited 'Fukrey' franchise duo, are entertaining to watch. Varun is the one who is hilarious, especially when he is trying to adjust to the American culture and longing for home and Indian food. Manjot, on the other hand, seems comically sweet and bewildered all of the time. Gautam Mehra's Kevin as a hyperactive content creator is idiotic but convincing - many people will identify with his quest to become an influencer. Debutant Kshitij Chauhan embodies the over-confident charmer and has a negative side to his character that will make you loathe his Prateek. Elnaaz Norouzi brings a lot of oomph to the screen, especially when she's playing a pornographer.

In conclusion, this seven-part series is aimed squarely towards the younger generation, for whom the internet and social media have become an inextricable part of their daily lives. However, it becomes entangled in its own web of clichés and sloppy execution, failing to connect well enough to make it a compelling watch. Despite its shortcomings, it is watchable to some extent if you have nothing else to do.

Everything on point
symranbhue25 July 2021
The show is a very apt take on the parallel universe of social media. The scenario are very familiar but the story is unpredictable. The acting, the direction, the visuals, the writing, the music, basically everything is on point. Absolutely loved it.

Chutzpah if you watch it
sidhartharungupta26 July 2021
Easily one of the worst this year. The actors overact and the premise is horrible. The makers of the show got it all wrong and ended up producing a pile of garbage doing no good to anyone.

Chutzpah suffers from poor writing and feels long even with just 7 episodes of 30 minute duration.
Perspicuity116 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The first thought that came to my mind after watching the show, was that what exactly was the point of the show ? Chutzpah tries to show what the internet and social media platforms have become for youngsters today and how they are using it. In it's conclusion, the show tries to convey that not everyone is as they seem online, and that you don't need validation from thousands of strangers online in order to be happy, all that you need is to be around your loved ones, in the real world. The series documents various activities happening in the mysterious web world through it's subplots, like that of a girl who hides her true self because she's insecure about her physical appearance, the reality of cam girls, boys and girls seeking physical satisfaction, a Casanova who goes to bizarre lengths in order to maintain his status, a random Youtuber going crazy over the number of likes and comments his videos receive, a couple forced to romance with their computers because of the distance between them and a shy boy who opens up only in front of a cam girl. Every single subplot has been given a closure, but the journey is not that enjoyable.

After a while, scenes became repetitive and boring. For example, every episode, Vikas and Shikha video chat with each other and talk about pretty random things. Maybe the director was trying to show that they had nothing really to talk about, but as a viewer those scenes were not engaging to watch at all. I understand, it was all a part of the build-up but that build up was too slow. Towards the end, the show does become much better, but it takes too long to reach there.

As far as acting is concerned, there is nothing to complain as such. For the first time, Varun Sharma has played a role that is not 'Choocha', which is great. Gautam Mehra playing Kevin goes over the top sometimes, but that's what his character demanded perhaps. Newcomer Kshitij Chauhan portrays the role of a Casanova very confidently and convincingly. Tanya Maniktala doesn't have a lot to do in the show, but she does well in her limited screen time. Elnaaz Norouzi has done a pretty good job, her final monologue was most definitely a high point of the show. As far as Manjot Singh is concerned, there is rarely any misstep in his acting, 'Chutzpah' is no different as he plays a shy guy with complete conviction and comes across as very endearing.

The problem with the show is that it's too ambiguous in what it wants to convey, and feels long even with just 7 episodes of around 30 minutes duration. If you are expecting some kind of comedy in the show, considering it has been directed by the very promising Simarpreet Singh, then you are bound to be disappointed. Chutzpah was a disappointing watch, but I have high hopes from Simarpreet Singh and would definitely look forward to whatever he makes next.

People rating it badly are the ones who prefer watching erotic series over intellectual. It needs a brilliant mind to understand the message behind it. Not recommended for dumbs.

REALITY CHECK 💥
abhishekkd-3013030 July 2021
This series was recommended initially by few friends as they could so well relate it to what has been actually happening in today's times. I thought of giving it a try but the moment I started , I binge watched for straight 3.5 hrs (7 episodes - 30 mins each).

What blew my mind was the narrative and the concept by Amit Babbar. He managed to point out such minute incidents and have it as a part of the scenes which was so well executed and gives out a great message in the end. The best part is that how all characters are linked with each other in someway inspite of being in different cities/countries that defines the Web world aptly.

The director Simar has done a flawless job and all the actors and characters have given a phenomenal performance. Saw a lot of new faces but all of them were quite a pro in their acting.

Chutzpah is undoubtedly one of the best series I have seen in recent times and I would encourage most people to see , just to understand he social media and the web world which is a "Double Edged Sword" and how this show can help them maintain a sanity. Hope there's a sequel in the planning ....
