The Catacombs of Paris was initiated before the French Revolution (May 5, 1789 - November 9, 1799), but the impetus started with In Louis XV in 1763, when he issued an edict banning all burials from occurring inside the capital, due to overflow of bodies from the Black Death in the city's cemeteries, that lead to a public health crisis. "Alouette" the title of episode 2 is the name of one popular French lullaby. The song has a sing-song-like quality, bright and light, which is appropriate because the subject of the tune is a lark or a songbird. More specifically, it's about the singer's desire to kill, pluck and eat the bird. For those wondering why the singer wants to eat the songbird and not an owl or eagle--well, some scholars believe the songbird takes center stage because it is the first to sing in the morning., which starts the morning routine and parts lovers and families from their beds and homes. Irked by being awakened to responsibility, the hunter goes out to permanently shut off nature's alarm clock.
