This show could've been SO GOOD if the writers and producers did a good job and carefully planned every detail. But unfortunately, that's not the case.
From beginning to end, this drama is full of inconsistencies, illogical scenes and unexplained (back-)stories:
All in all, the few bits of "romance" were completely unnecessary. They should've just let Ye Rim and Dong Jin be old friends because they never explained why they broke up in the first place and their future (together or not) is an open end as well. The first few episodes they showed a few bits of romance through emotions like jealousy and such, but later on there's almost nothing that indicates that romance anymore. They cared about each other like they cared about the other team mates as well. So yes, like I said: unnecessary.
I could go on with inconsistencies which go against logic and unresolved content but I guess you get the picture.
What I want to mention though is that the final 3 episodes were REALLY GOOD and far better than the rest of the episodes. And, like I said, I liked the general idea of the plot plus the actors did an amazing job and the cinematography was great, too. It's such a shame the writers and producers didn't pay any attention to details that messed up the whole story.
Conclusion: If you don't care about details and don't mind some inconsistencies, clichés and unresolved stories or situations, you might even love the show. But if you're like me and these things distract and/or annoy you, you might be strongly disappointed in the show.
From beginning to end, this drama is full of inconsistencies, illogical scenes and unexplained (back-)stories:
- a civilian joining a military operation in the DMZ
- a 10-year-old just walking into the DMZ with no one stopping her
- a soldier who joins a mission last minute meeting the soldier who's been missing for a few hours instantly even though the rest of the team has been in the DMZ for hours as well and close to the missing soldier during all this time (yup, makes TOTAL SENSE)
- Speakers, drones and other technical systems failing in the most crucial moment - this is a modernized country with one of the most advanced techniques, not some third-world-country
- The one who was supposed to kill the target OF COURSE misses his shot (he's a professional sniper y'all!!!) which is why the ones who kill it in the end are OF COURSE the two main characters/somewhat couple of the show
- It is never fully explained why the infected persons and animals had different eye colors (host with mutation: red, second infected person: green, third infected person and wild dogs: red)
- Also, it is never explained why the infected person with green eyes isn't as aggressive as the others
- Ye Rim grew up with a doctor who was like a father to her, but without telling her about it, he quits his job and leaves... and that's it. She never looks for him, it is never said where he went. It's her "father"!!!!
- The important thing Dong Jin wanted to tell his ex-girlfriend Ye Rim after he was discharged? Yeah, that never happened either, at least not on screen.
