Standard recital by Sotra
raderadumilo22 March 2021
Sotra is an expert to take a theme that could be filmed as an epic block buster and make a school recital out of it. Some very important parts of Serbian (and Balkan) history are waiting for a more capable film maker.

Waiting for more episodes... dissatisfaction grows!
Glifada16 March 2021
I don't know how this series will go on, but the first episode doesn't promise very much. Everything is slowed down, the dialogues are unconvincing, the actors are both good and not so good, but the scenography bothers me the most because everything seems like a play in theatrical setting. In any case, one should wait to see more episodes before passing judgements, right?

29.03.2021 Unfortunately, everything seems to be moving towards a bad result. Each new episode seems even less interesting, the acting is artificial, the dialogues are like a recital performance, the scenography is strikingly bad (especially scenes 'in the snow' in the third episode, as if they were filmed for a children's show!). I'm so disappointed!

Historical monologues
radgavric29 August 2021
Very boring, feels unreal.

After watching 2 episodes, I can't find many redeeming points. There is no interaction between the characters, every dialogue comes across as a staged monologues by different historical figures. There is no action, there is hardly any movement at all, as most of the time characters are sitting down deep into monologues.

Rather than throwing every historical information into it, director should have used a bit of artistic freedom and make it interesting.

Shame Who has a patients to sit through, can learn a lot about that period.

Poor

There is no motion or action between actors, it looks like there was duedate to finish so they film without repeating... So tipical for Mr. Sotra in last few years (decades)

Unimpressive
picpoc-7816617 March 2021
After more than a year of work on this series, the final outcome appears to be a history lesson with drawn out dialogues. Most actors appear to be unconvincing in their roles so far, and do not help out in making the series interesting. I doubt the other episodes will be any better.

Very boring
mmmajaa16 March 2021
This TV series has a very boring storyline and the dialogue is fake and unnatural like the dialogue in any other TV series that is not interesting. Try to avoid it.

It's like watching a bad, boring theatrical play... Dialogs are poor and artificial, the acting is unconvincing.. I doubt that the upcoming episodes will be any better. So far, every episode made me angry because I felt like I'm wasting my time :D I expected more.

WTF was this?
EddieGunner7 April 2021
So poorly directed and acted.

Since book come out i wanted to read it, then after i didn't manage to get my hands on book i saw that there is series made by book. So knowing that Draskovic book is good and that whole that story about first state of Yugoslavia must be interesting and good, i was totaly dissapointed after i watched few episodes of it. It's so boring, acting is so amateur, there is no contact between actors they r all so empty, i doubt it was idea to do it like that.

One aweful thing is when King and other Serbian actors speak on foreign language it's like robots , lilke they are reading it from "idiot", like kid in 1st grade word by word so poor.

All in all i quit after 8eps, couldnt stand it anymore,

i think book by Draskovic is only solution so far, and this great story should be given to some serious director to do a movie or a series that will be worth watching,

You should watch this
totorowalking28 June 2021
This is a story hidden by communists. This is a story about yugoslav nation that could have become a great one, as well as a story about one amazing king. Actors are good, the atmosphere is touching with our authentic music of Balkans. It is appreciated that actors try to speak French, Romanian ans English languages to make international scenes more realistic.

Authentic project with very serious approach of researching historical facts
mpoposa31 March 2021
This TV show took a lot of effort to be released. Hours and hours of research are spent in order this project is shown on the big screen. Scenography, costumes, music, vehicles are so authentic and we really feel like we are back in 1920's . This project is not for uneducated, simple people that gives 1/10 star because they feel borred. They feel borred because they don't respect their country, their history and the intellectual elite above them.

I can agree that the directing is not following the latest trends and that the camera is not modern as we see these days in top production but the accent is on other ,more important things.

For uneducated people who feel borred i have a message- it is never to late to go to high school or at least read the mandatory literature.

Educational, but poorly executed
Manijak8418 January 2022
I came across the movie at first while zapping through some Serbian TV-channels. I didn't know much about the movie or the book, but since I left Yugoslavia as child in the 90s, I felt really intrigued by the plot. Went online and did a bit of research and found out about the series instead.

I watched the whole thing and really enjoyed it. I was actually sad when it ended, as I wanted to know more. :)

Yes, the production and acting aren't Netflix level, but very much watchable. I came for the history, I wanted to know, to learn a bit more of how my former state was founded. There were plenty of interesting facts and moments that I never knew about.

I believe this series is more for someone who has ties to the region or is just generally very interested in Yugoslav-history. There are no epic battles or fight scenes if that's what you are looking for.

What I didn't like is that they used actors as narrators, like the reporters (Mesecina). I really wish they used a proper narrator to fill in the gaps of the story as it unfolded, that would have been more original. Felt a bit weird to listen to the by-standing reporters explain to the viewer what the King felt in a certain situation. And perhaps adding a bit graphics to the mix, to show how the borders moved through the years for example, would have been a plus.

But all in all I liked it, and it left me wishing for more. I really wanted to see what happens until the start of WW2. How Paul led the country and what happened to Peter II.

Hugely underrated
stojisavljevicb19 November 2021
The ratings don't do justice to this series. While I personally expected more from the acclaimed director Sotra - one cannot under-appreciate the historical weight of this drama. Admittedly, production and acting are average - but story itself, untold until now, and integration of never before seen original footages with the screenplay - on its own deserve at least an above average rating. Worth watching!
