Gaius' character is explored further, both his background and relationship with Merlin. I enjoyed seeing him take center stage a bit. Decent acting and storyline.

The acting on all parts, specifically from Richard wilson and Julian Rhind-Tutt, was phenomenal. Their performances really drive the story forward, and gave a very captivating episode.
Overall the story was very strong with an empathetic view towards Edwin, showing how destructive Uther's laws on magic are and how many live they destroyed. It also paints a picture of what the purge was actually like and builds the lore of the 'Merlin universe'. My only criticism of this episode is that it does end a little fast, with Edwin dying.
We do get to see Merlin use more magic which is always good.
Additionally the music composed for this episode is fantastic, it really drives up the stakes of the episode and gets the adrenaline going.
Overall a fantastic, which would be a perfect 10/10 (for me), if the ending was a little more satisfying, and not so quick.
