New Evil Dead Movie Delivered Major Thrills,Horror,Drama,Suspense & More

4 hours ago | OnTheFlix | See recent OnTheFlix news »

New Evil Dead movie delivered major thrills, horror, drama, suspense & more. TriStar Pictures (Sony) released their new horror/thriller flick "Evil Dead." I just checked it out,and thought it was wicked intense, thrilling, and suspenseful as all hell. The movie stars: Jane Levy, Shiloh Fernandez, Lou Taylor Pucci, Jessica Lucas, and Elizabeth Blackmore. In the new flick, a group of four friends: David, Mia,Eric,Olivia, and Natalie made their way to an old cabin in the backwoods. David and Mia are siblings. Eric eventually finds a weird demonic book, called the Naturon Demonto, and despite repeated warnings, he read through the pages of the book, and uttered an incantation from it. Meanwhile ,Mia wondered off by her lonesome, and surely enough, started to see visions of a girl with pale skin and yellow eyes. As the scene continued, Mia ended up,getting attacked and captured by tree branches. »

Box Office: ‘Evil Dead’ Looks Lively With $12 Million Friday Haul

16 hours ago | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

Sony’s “Evil Dead,” a remake that raises Sam Raimi’s 1981 original from its cult classic grave, is rising slightly higher than expectations this weekend. “Evil Dead” earned $11.9 million Friday, with a three-day haul of around $27 million projected.

The TriStar, FilmDistrict and Ghost House Productions release got off to a strong start against players with a little broader appeal this frame, including Universal’s “Jurassic Park” 3D rerelease and Fox-DreamWorks Animations “The Croods.” Friday will almost definitely be the scarer’s strongest day, with that early jump quite certainly enough positioning the film to win the weekend.

Behind it, “Jurassic Park” is falling tightly in line with expectations that were a little unsure heading into the weekend. The actioner took $7 million Friday for second, and will likely land in the high teens through Sunday as expected, but a pair of strong holdovers are expected to muscle it down to fourth place in that time. »

Evil Dead lively in top spot on Friday. Horror grosses $11.9 million

16 hours ago | Upcoming-Movies.com | See recent Upcoming-Movies.com news »

TriStar and FilmDistrict's Evil Dead remake topped the box office this Friday over Jurassic Park 3D in second, grossing $11.9 million from 3,025 theaters. Fede Alvarez directs the film starring Jane Levy, Shiloh Fernandez, Jessica Lucas, Lou Taylor Pucci and Elizabeth Blackmore, which looks to coin around $27 million over the weekend. Steven Spielberg's Jurassic Park managed a decent $7million from its 2,771 theater return in 3D, and looks to bring in about $18 million come Sunday estimates time. Good news for Universal who're prepping a fourth installment in the franchise, with a yet-to-be-determined cast. Paramount's G.I. Joe Retaliation actioner which topped the charts last weekend, started its sophomore weekend with a Friday post of $6.4 million. Total domestic cume's now at $71.9 million, and overseas the film starring Dwayne Johnson, Channing Tatum and Bruce Willis, has made $80 million. In fourth, Fox's The Croods animated adventure added $6 million, and now takes its domestic total past $110 million. »

Both Evil Dead And Jurassic Park 3D Bring In Big Friday Box Office

17 hours ago | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

The huge blockbuster opening this weekend was made 20 years ago, and the horror film is a remake of a classic from the 80s, but the box office is humming as if both of them were brand new. According to the early numbers at Deadline, both Jurassic Park 3D and Evil Dead had huge Fridays, with Evil Dead at the head of the pack. The horror remake from director Fede Alvarez made $11.5 million on Friday, setting it up for an estimated $27 million weekend and an easy first place. Right behind it was the 3D re-release of Jurassic Park, already one of the biggest blockbusters in history. The original opened to $47 million in 1993, but the 3D re-release of course won't get quite that close-- it made $7 million on Friday and is estimated for a $18 million weekend. The rest of the top 10 is rounded out by holdovers, with G.I. Joe: Retaliation holding »

Evil Dead - New UK TV Spot - Go Watch this Movie!

17 hours ago | GeekTyrant | See recent GeekTyrant news »

Fede Alvarez's Evil Dead remake is one of the most insane horror movies I've ever seen. I absolutely loved it! If you haven't seen this movie yet, go watch it now! You honestly have no idea how bloody, gory, and scary it is until you see it for yourself. Evil Dead is so crazy it will blow your mind. Some poor girl sitting next to me in the theater was literally crying. It was amazing. If you like horror movies, this is a must watch! Nothing can prepare you for what this movie has to offer.

Anyway, here's a new one minute TV spot from the UK for you to watch! The movie opens up this weekend in the Us, and it hits the UK on April 18th. Check out the spot and make sure to watch the bloody madness for yourself!

Movie Review: 'Evil Dead'

Evil Dead

Starring Jane Levy, Shiloh Fernandez, Jessica Lucas, Lou Taylor Pucci, Elizabeth Blackmore

Directed by Fede Alvarez

Rated R

I thought a lot about this review for Evil Dead.  The problem I had with this film was that I was trying to compare this with the original, which is a terrible mistake on my end. This film is everything you want in an Evil Dead film and everything you wished for in a remake; great scares, awesome gags, and love and care for the films that came before it.  Director Fede Alvarez took in this property with ever loving care and made a film that is worthy of being mentioned alongside the original.

The film begins with four friends driving to a cabin in the woods: David ( Shiloh Fernandez ), Olivia ( Jessica Lucas ), Eric ( Lou Taylor Pucci ), and Natalie ( Elizabeth Blackmore ).  Their goal isn’t to party hard, drink beer and smoke weed, »

'Evil Dead' box office debut draws bloody good grosses

5 April 2013 1:44 PM, PDT | Pop2it | See recent Pop2it news »

The remake of cult horror favorite "Evil Dead" is already drawing blood at the box office, grossing an estimated $1.8 million from midnight moviegoers.

Although "Evil Dead" officially opens today (April 5), the growing trend in "midnight shows" -- which often now include 10 p.m. screenings the night before opening -- has helped get the movie off to a strong start. The $1.8 million gross is a notch ahead of the $1.6 million the remake of "A Nightmare on Elm Street" brought in from midnight shows in 2010, according to BoxOfficeMojo.

The "Elm Street" remake went on to gross $32.9 million in its opening weekend (and rapidly crumbled from there leading to a final gross of $63 million). "Evil Dead" is now pretty much guaranteed to meet industry forecasts and open with over $20 million for the weekend. Not bad for a movie with a reported budget of just $17 million. (Fun fact: 1983's "Evil Dead" grossed just $2.4 million during its entire run, »

Box Office: Evil Dead Starts Off Strong; Jurassic Park 3D Set To Take Second Place

5 April 2013 1:04 PM, PDT | ComicBookMovie.com | See recent ComicBookMovie news »

Deadline reports that Fede Alvarez's Evil Dead remake took $1.8 million last night for what studio execs are reportedly calling one of, "the best late show openings of the year" and "A great start for the film." This means that early estimates of a $20 million+ weekend are now looking to be closer to around the $30 million mark. Not bad at all for a movie with a budget of only $17 million. As for Jurassic Park 3D, that took $462,652 at late night showings, although this is nowhere near the $1.3 million earned by Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace last year. Steven Spielberg may have overseen the 3D conversion, but will that be enough to draw in moviegoers? It's thought that the re-release wil tale only between $15 million -$18 million for the weekend. »

Friday Box Office: #1 ‘Evil Dead’ Really Strong And #2 ‘Jurassic Park 3D’ Decent

5 April 2013 12:45 PM, PDT | Deadline Hollywood | See recent Deadline Hollywood news »

Estimates are coming in for a lively Friday domestic box office based on matinee trends. But, first, a complaint. The studios are sneaky. They keep starting their weekend previews earlier and earlier and then fold in those Thursday 7pm and 10pm grosses into the Friday midnight totals to pad first-day numbers. The result is that the so-called ‘midnight’ numbers have become actual ‘late show’ numbers and I will refer to them as such from now on. I also consider them worthless for predicting Friday or weekend strength or weakness. Thanks a lot, moguls, for making my box office reporting even more complicated. (Long sigh…) Sony’s Tristar/Film District/Ghost House’s Evil Dead took in $1.8M ”making it among the best late show openings of the year,” execs are gushing. “A great start for the film.” The film is playing on 3,025 screens this weekend and »

'Evil Dead' YouReview: Movie-Goers Can't Get Enough Blood, Gore

"Evil Dead," a reboot of the 1981 cult horror hit, has been generating quite a lot of buzz about how gruesome, walkout-inciting, and faint-inducing it is proving to be. In Fede Alvarez's reimagining, five young people hole up in a cabin to help a drug-addicted friend (Jane Levy) get sober. They get more than they bargained for when they accidentally summon demons from the nearby woods, with incredibly gory, blood-soaked results. Moviefone caught up with movie-goers leaving a late-night showing of the shocking flick to find out if they were "in" or "out." Watch the video above. 'Evil Dead' (2013) Movie Review

Reviewed by Chris Risdal, MoreHorror.com

I loved this movie. Now that that is out of the way, let me get into the gory details. First off, why don't I recap the story of Evil Dead, I mean why not right? Five friends go to a cabin to help one of their own detox from drugs when they discover the Book Of The Dead and unleash hell upon themselves and possibly the world.

I'd like to start off by saying this film is very well shot with some great camera angles and lighting with the woods of New Zealand standing out beautifully in this production. They are both sinister and full of wonder and beauty at the same time.

The score by Roque Baños is haunting and very effective in building tension and making you quite uncomfortable with blaring sirens and screeching strings. Then you have the great practical effects »

Evil Dead

Directed by: Fede Alvaraez

Cast: Jane Levy, Shiloh Fernandez, Lou Taylor Pucci, Jessica Lucas, Elizabeth Blackmore

Running Time: 1 hr 31 mins

Rating: R

Release Date: April 5, 2013

Plot: A group of meddling young adults accidentally unleash a satanic being during their impromptu gathering at a cabin in the woods.

Who’S It For? While it may not stand up to The Evil Dead, I find it hard to think the original fan demographic won’t enjoy even the basic elements of this remake. Anyone looking for a unique scare should take a look; fans of the color red definitely won’t be disappointed.

Expectations: The original film (The Evil Dead) is not a movie I hold close to my heart, so I wasn’t going into this movie with sensitive taste. If anything, I was looking to be freaked out by a fresher take.

Not much coming out this weekend except for Evil Dead and Jurassic Park 3D; something for two widely different sets of audiences.  On one hand you have a film with dinosaurs for everyone to enjoy and on the other you this demonic possession film with gore, mutilation and Jane Levy.  While Jurassic Park appeals to a broader audience, are audiences willing to spend a ticket for a film that’s already on Blu-ray for the chance to see it in 3D?  Can G.I. Evil Dead Review

4 April 2013 3:10 PM, PDT | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

[This is a re-post of my review from SXSW 2013.  Evil Dead opens today.] If your goal is to give the people exactly what they want, then you better give them the best you've got otherwise it's obvious pandering. Fede Alvarez' remake of Evil Dead does not pander. It fiercely grabs the audience by the throat, and vomits as much blood and viscera as we can stomach it, and not everyone will be able to stomach what the horror flick has to offer. Alvarez and cinematographer Aaron Morton set a creepy vibe, but their primary interest is in gleefully laying out the implements of destruction. "We know what you came for," the film says with a devilish smile. And then it lets loose violence beyond all reason. The fear eventually fades, the emotions recede into the background, but Evil Dead delivers on the bloody mayhem that needs far more than an MPAA rating. It needs a warning label. Evil Dead Review (Four and a Half out of Five stars) Lots of blood and even more screams make Evil Dead a fantastic horror remake

4 April 2013 1:02 PM, PDT | Upcoming-Movies.com | See recent Upcoming-Movies.com news »

Review: Five friends battle evil spirits with gory results in fantastic remake Evil Dead Some movie remakes are obsessively loyal to the point of being dull, mirror reflections of the original film. Think about Gus Van Sant and his stumbling, paint-by-the-numbers recreation of Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho. What’s the point? Other filmmakers undertake a complete makeover in order to transform a B-movie into something fresh and original. I’m talking about director David Cronenberg and Jeff Goldblum as the tragic scientist who becomes The Fly. Filmmaker Fede Alvarez, from Montevideo, Uruguay, of all places, reboots the 1981 cult horror classic The Evil Dead for his debut feature and strikes the perfect balance of fan reverence and fearless desire to boost the scares to new levels of shock and awe. »

Counterpoint Review: Evil Dead is Torture

4 April 2013 10:00 AM, PDT | Twitch | See recent Twitch news »

There is a moment in Fede Alvarez's article-less remake of The Evil Dead that offers a hint of the condescension to come; an utter lack of faith in the audience or a confidence crisis in storytelling.  After a mishandled prologue involving the exorcism of a dead-ite girl in the basement filled with more cat corpses and mutant hillbillies than Sleepwalkers and The Hills Have Eyes combined, our younger, prettier, twentysomethings come to the cabin in the woods to become, as they say, "spam in a cabin."  As our own John Jarzemsky acknowledged in his review from SXSW last month, "the script is probably the weakest point of Evil Dead."Writer/director [Fede] Alvarez's dialogue "is excessively utilitarian and on the nose," John wrote, "a problem exacerbated by mostly wooden...
