All you can really be is you, so be the best darn you that you possibly can. You know that you are special, so do your friends, your family. But if you think anyone else's opinion matters, then by all means, enter some silly contest pitting yourself against others, risking low self- esteem and when the contest is over, you're right back where you started. But, hey, it's still fun to try. Let's see if The Jetsons agree in their latest adventure: It was another lousy day for George Jetson, but does he let it get him down? No, sir. He knows that after a peaceful nap in traffic, he'll be home and into the welcoming arms of his loving family who worship the ground he walks on. It was a nice dream, but unfortunately not a reality. He could have been on fire and they probably wouldn't have noticed. The monotony is soon broken by Rosie bringing in the mail and they go through the usual routine: Elroy playing keep-away with Judy's mail, Jane receives an enticing offer with a catch, even Astro gets junk mail! The rest are bills, all for George. But guess what? Even Orbitty gets a holographic letter. But unlike the rest of the family's mail, this one sounds important. An ad for a contest trying to determine the one person who best represents the twenty first century. The winner's life story will be preserved in a time capsule for 1,000 years to gloat for future generations...plus a big cash prize will be awarded. Well, with Orbitty's being the deciding vote, each member of the family was determined to sway and bribe the little guy to choose him or her.
First up, the very boy who found Orbitty and brought him home: Elroy, and wouldn't you know, he has that episode on tape, which he plays for Orbitty's consideration. It's now Judy's turn to bribe Orbitty, so Elroy has to surrender the alien or she'll tell on him. Big baby. Judy and her diary, DiDi, were just remembering some of the greatest moments of her life...starring her, of course. She shows Orbitty a clip from her sweet sixteen birthday party episode; Jane's turn. She shares with Orbitty the time she and George were declared unlawfully married and an old flame was moving in on her. Long story short, George wins her back and they marry legally; last but not least: George Jetson, this is your life. We see a clip of SuperGeorge, able to crush small cars in a single pinch. Good times...good times. However, this soon leads to a family feud, each member angry at the other for trying to sway Orbitty. Not waiting to hear his vote, they each dump their "life story" tapes in Rosie's arms to mail and await the decision, facing a sleepless night and feeling guilt for their actions. Unfortunately Rosie had already sent off the tapes. Too late to repent...or was it? A robot messenger arrives to tell them that they are each finalists. Overcome with hope and generosity, George hopes Jane wins, Jane hopes George wins, Elroy hopes Judy wins, Judy hopes Elroy wins...they all win. Nobody represents the twenty first century more than The Jetsons.
Good episode. It's a Jetsons clip show, so there isn't much to say. Nice to see Orbitty get some attention and to show how silly contests such as these can cause a family to quarrel. I find it odd that they just happen to have moments of their lives on film...who was filming them? How did they acquire episodes of their own show? I guess they can travel to other universes? Or is this a break-the-fourth-wall episode where they acknowledge they only exist in a television show? Hey, it's a cartoon, never mind logic.
