Don't Get Caught!
ExplorerDS678913 March 2011
Warning: Spoilers
That damn dog Astro just can't stay out of trouble. He constantly harasses George while he tries to do his work, and his automatic ball scrambles the TV just as Elroy watches Hill Star Blues. It somehow reverts the television to show two mobsters, one doing a bad Brando impersonation (the Gridfather), planning on robbing Cogswell Cogs. So, George and Elroy go to report it to the cops, but lack of evidence dismisses their case. Next step, tell Cogswell's arch-nemesis, Mr. Spacely. Now why does George think Spacely will give two craps about Cogswell being robbed? He doesn't, naturally, and sends George on his way. What now? Tell Mr Cogswell? George heads off to do that, fearing he will get fired for doing so... (alright, why...just WHY is he so unnerved about getting fired from his job? Spacely is a monster, George is always miserable, he always neglects his family because of overwork, it's not worth it! Just leave, you IDIOT!) So he tells Cogswell, who laughs it off as another one of Spacely's gimmicks then he has a football player jump out of the TV and eject George bodily. Afterwards, he wonders if maybe it isn't a bluff and orders his new security system to go online PDQ. Glad to know at least somebody in this episode has a brain.

Elroy and Astro decide to take matters into their own hands. George gets involved too when going to find the temporary runaways and together, they infiltrate Cogswell's warehouse to try and prove their Gridfather theory as true. Suddenly, they're surrounded by robot Cogswells with rope cigars. Then the feds arrive, prompting the actual crooks to skedaddle and George, Elroy and Astro are arrested. The latter two get to go home because I guess cops in the future aren't allowed to arrest kids and dogs? So George goes to jail. Boy, the stupid is climbing higher and higher with this episode. Well, the Gridfather breaks George out of jail in order to frame him for their next heist, and at home, Astro manages to do that thing with the TV again, returning them to the Gridfather network, where he's now seen plotting on robbing Spacely's. Desperate to get the message across to him, Jane goes to get a job as George's replacement. I'm serious, Jane gets a job for the first time in the series. With help from RUDI, she manages to reprogram the warehouse security system, catching the Gridfather, his goon and a reluctant George in the act. Thank goodness Elroy made a DVD of the Gridfather's last broadcast, because it cleared George and sent the real crooks up the river. And to show his appreciation, Mr. Spacely awards George the work he missed when he was in jail and a capture.

This episode is bad. It was a nice original approach to the Spacely vs. Cogswell series, but why is George always such a chew toy in these episodes? It wasn't this bad in the first season, so what's the change? While "Crime Games" is memorable, you wish it weren't. It's dull, uninteresting and it makes no flippin' sense! Exactly WHAT was filming the Gridfather plotting his crimes? Was it supposed to be like in that one Twilight Zone where that guy sees his immediate future on the television? Well there, we had an explanation for how he was able to see that. Here, we don't. It's never explained. All in all, fans I say skip this one. It's stupid, it sucks, and the writers as well as whoever greenlit it should go to jail along with the Gridfather.
