Sex & Nudity

  • Strong references are made throughout the series, more so in the earlier episodes.
  • Brief breast nudity in the first and third episodes. In the third episode we see a woman in the shower. Her breasts are shown briefly several times, a man enters the adjoining room with a window into the shower and watches her intently. He then begins to masturbate while watching the woman. We see no male nudity, however.
  • Reference to fingering
  • Two characters kiss passionately
  • It is briefly said in a conversation that a character had a love affair with another man

Violence & Gore

  • The gore is probably more graphic than the violence
  • Graphic zombie violence in each episode, often involving excessive amounts of blood and gore.
  • A woman is bitten in the neck. We see blood flowing from the bite as she falls to the floor.
  • A zombie's head is smashed in with a fire extinguisher.
  • A zombies head is chopped off with an axe. Very bloody
  • A zombie is shot in a pool. Her blood spreads through the water.
  • A zombie is repeatedly impaled with a pole
  • Multiple zombies are shot in the head. After one in particular, a close-up is shown as he lies on the ground with a bloody hole in his head and his brains falling out the other side.
  • A woman stabs a zombie in the throat with a large pair of scissors. Very graphic.
  • A zombie is shown slowly eating a person, ripping the flesh with his teeth and dripping blood from his mouth.
  • A man is bit by a zombie, so his partner immediately shoots him in the head
  • Characters snipe zombies from the roof, most of them die. Less gore in comparison to the rest of the show.
  • All of the zombies are covered in lots of blood and intestines. Very gory.
  • Some scenes of corpses with their necks bitten and stomachs ripped open.
  • A character is shot by another character, minimal blood.
  • In one character's desperate attempt to escape he decides to trick the zombies using human meat. We see him cut chunks of flesh off the corpse. Extremely bloody.
  • Shortly after that, several of the other main characters go through a similar incident. They are bitten and ripped apart rather graphically.

Profanity

  • As to be expected from a Charlie Brooker project, there is a lot of profanity throughout the miniseries.
  • Heavy usage of strong language ("Fuck")
  • Uses of very strong language ("Cunt") said infrequently.
  • Many uses of mild-moderate profanity ("Bitch", "Bastard", "Shit", etc.)
  • One of the main characters of the miniseries is abusive and extremely fond of peppering his speech with profanity, and just about every other word he says is vulgar. He verbally insults everyone often telling them to "fuck off" and in one scene he calls a woman "a tit'ed fucking idiot". The scene after that has him excessively yelling out "Fuck" in a one minute span as he goes on a tirade.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • Mild to moderate.
  • We see some characters smoke cigarettes.
  • One character drinks a bottle of champagne and falls asleep on the floor holding the bottle.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • Extremely bleak & fear inducing. There isn't another zombie adaptation out there what hits home like this one does. Definitely not for anyone under the age of 16.
  • Contains frequent strong horror. All five episodes contain scenes of violence, fighting, shooting, and graphic gore.
  • From the start there is an unsettling atmosphere, and it gets strong as the series progresses.
  • Very disturbing violence.
  • The ending could be depressing to most viewers

Spoilers

The Parents Guide items below may give away important plot points.

Violence & Gore

  • The final scenes of the last episode are particularly gruesome. A large group of zombies attack an individual. He is literally ripped to pieces, they graphically bite and scratch him before digging into his stomach and ripping out his intestines and organs. This scene is extremely bloody, and there are shots of the man's intestines and other body parts. He is still screaming and cussing at the zombies when this happens. One of the most graphic, disturbing scenes in the film.
