This is a spectacular finish to the 4th series that lays the foundations for number 5.
The fantasy movie genre enjoys action-packed, effects-heavy conclusions, whilst making time for all the emotion and character reflection, 'Piggyback' includes it all in a big run time.
Is it too long? Marginally yes, but I don't think it's to the detriment of the episode. The writers could have split it with some sort of cliffhanger in the middle but I personally would have found that irritating and momentum killing. I prefer the general plot unfolding as it does here.
It has plenty of memorable character moments for everyone, especially Eleven, Max, Hopper, Murray, Eddie, Dustin, Argyle and Lucas.
The action spectacle is well done and likely to appeal to fans of the superhero genre, especially those who enjoy battles with powers and the use of weapons. If you enjoy these type of scenes they will not disappoint.
For me the scenes focussed around character emotions are a bit too sentimental for my liking, but I am a cynic. I have always struggled with characters dramatically professing their love for each other on screen.
I love what they do with the freezer in the pizza shop, the use of music is very entertaining and the final imagery that leads into the next season is exceptionally good.
All the visuals are excellent as always, particularly the seamless transitions between various locations.
The performances of all are great, particularly Joseph Quinn, Gaten Matarazzo, Millie Bobby Brown and Sadie Sink.
