Warning: Spoilers
A pretty good start here. Good pacing, good simple plot, and for the most part Cush Jumbo seems invested in the role. Curious to see how dark it will get though.

A very good start.

Disillusioned with The Police, Frances Cairnes begins her own investigation, who killed her son. DI Strangeways has arrived on The Isle of Wight where the tragedy occured.

Very good, first of all, it's good to see Britbox coming up with some new and original drama, I had no idea that was going to be a thing.

For me, this was as good as, if not better than most of the content that has been on terrestrial TV of late.

It's a sad story, but if this first part is anything to go by, this will be good, it's quite original, it's engaging, and even in this early stage there are several suspects.

I'm keen to learn what happened, and interested to learn what Strangeways story is.

Fish Jumbo and Billy Howle were both very strong. 8/10.

All all Wight

If you don't live and breathe detective series then you wl probably think this is fine, but, for the rest of us, there is nothing new here.

A new cop in town with a past that keeps coming back to haunt him reminds me of Hinterland without the scandi-noir effect that the Scandinavians (and Welsh!) do so well.

I liked Cush Jumbo in Vera and felt sorry for the way here character died in that but it is hard to like her here.

Yes, the locals are suspicious of an outsider (no actual mention of racism but perhaps it is implied) and the girl who may be the answer to her search just automatically becomes her bestie.

On the plus side, the scenery is beautiful (all these shows popping up seem to have an autumn look due to Covid even though it says July on Lena's phone!), the pc brigade haven't marched in with same sex relations and there's no one with a limb hanging off or in a wheelchair (as of yet!).

Worth watching further as Geraldine James is a quality actress but doesn't appear until the end.

It has been made for Britbox so a 59 minute episode without ads seems a bit long by modern standards.

Worth watching further.

Annoying AND unpleasant people

Combine with dark sets, loud, sharp sounds to create a sense of anxiety and an unwelcoming environment which pushes the viewer away and says to me:

'Go away, this is not a place that wants you in it.'

And I agree and give this a total miss.

Cannot recommend.
