Great Introduction to a Loved Character
Hello I'm back doing a review after being away for months. This will be on the Amphibia episode, "Marcy at the Gates." This plot is Anne and the Planter family meeting her other friend Marcy for the first time; then they have to drive out the Barbari-ants so that the gang can go to Newtopia. This episode was fun, action packed and a great way to introduce one of my fave characters; Marcy (my fave along with Anne and Sasha from Amphibia).
The animation is great. These include the action scenes when the gang are fighting out the ants and seeing Newtopia for the first time. The writing is also great. I already talked about the plot, but the highlights are the character's interactions with Marcy and how they defeat the giant ants together. I will talk about the characters underneath. This episode is fun seeing what Marcy does here.
Let's move on to the characters who are all likable and understandable with their motivations. Anne is happy to see Marcy again, wants to keep her safe even if Marcy can take care of herself and letting her do it. Sprig not trusting Marcy, from how last time Sasha (Anne's other friend) was bad. Hop Pop and Polly were good then we get to Marcy herself. This episode was a great introduction to who Marcy is: a clumsy and smart nerd who in Amphibia became a scout who knows very much about it, as well as someone who defends Newtopia and her friends.
There are a few flaws though, we don't really get to the main plot and conflict until later. But that doesn't negatively impact the episode that much. Overall "Marcy at the Gates" is a fun, charming, action packed episode with likable characters including Marcy who I love. This gets a 9/10.
Note: I'm going to be very busy with other stuff online.
Edit 1/29/2024: Changed my episode review to a 10/10. The flaws here are minimal and don't affect how great the episode is. Also added one sentence into the conclusion. "Marcy at the Gates" is just an awesome way to introduce Marcy and one of the best episodes in the show.
