For the group’s 25th anniversary, Little Big Town is pouring some sugar on it. Some Sugarland, actually, as the two country groups will be spending some quality time together later this year, in the wake of their joint performance Sunday night on the CMT Music Awards, where they hooked up to sing their newly arranged cover of Phil Collins’ 1985 smash “Take Me Home.”
The day after the meeting of the vocal-group titans on the CBS awards telecast, Lbt and Sugarland have released a studio version of the Collins tune they performed live, along with announcing a joint tour in the fall that will see them hit the road together for 18 dates. The tour starts Oct. 24 in Greenville, Sc and wraps Dec. 13 with a hometown show at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena.

As Willie Nelson once sang, there’s no place but Texas — and some of country music’s hallmark awards shows seem to agree. In the past two years, two big-budget ceremonies have been staged not in Nashville but in the Lone Star State. On Sunday, the CMT Music Awards, airing on CBS, made their return to Austin for a second consecutive year and leaned hard into all the trappings of Texas.
Native son Cody Johnson opened the show with an everything-is-bigger performance of a song called “That’s Texas.” Cowboy hats were ubiquitous,...

The Europe-based International Coalition for Filmmakers at Risk has called for the immediate release of Myanmar documentary maker Shin Daewe.
One of Myanmar’s leading female filmmakers, Shin Daewe was arrested in Yangon in October after she had gone to collect a drone.
After three months on remand she was tried by a military tribunal, inside the Insein Prison and without legal representation. She was sentenced to life imprisonment for violating Myanmar’s anti-terrorism law by possessing a drone.
Myanmar is ruled by a military junta that seized control in February 2021 from a civilian government that it had previously backed. Ever since, the army has been embroiled in a civil war against regional militia, leaving the economy largely wrecked and civil liberties in tatters. The junta has also jailed other filmmakers including Ma Aeint and Maung Thein Dan as well as journalists and photographers.

When I set out to make my short film Take Me Home, I wanted to raise questions about our responsibilities to family as we grow older. The film captures a feared transitional moment for families that include a loved one who cannot live on their own: What is inherited? How do we navigate the hurdles of the American health care system when we are living on the margins of life?
I grew up as the middle child of 11. My adoptive parents had four biological children, then adopted seven more — six of whom are Korean, several with disabilities. We grew up in a John Hughes-esque suburb of America on a picturesque street. Our family stood out whether we liked it or not. Inside the house, however, adoption and disability were the norm. Everyone was the same, because everyone was different.

Liz Sargent‘s moving short film “Take Me Home” packs a punch and plenty of heart in just 15 minutes of screen time. The film follows a cognitively disabled woman (Anna Sargent) and her sister (Jeena Yi) who must learn to communicate after the untimely death of their mother. Gold Derby caught a screening of the film and grabbed a chat with writer-director Sargent, who explained that the genesis of this rooted in her family history.
“I grew up as the middle child of eleven, my parents had 4 biological children, then adopted 7 more, 6 of whom are Korean and several with different disabilities. In our family, everyone is the same because everyone is different. Anna is the youngest sibling, she was born at 2 lbs, developed a cyst on her brain and was left with various disabilities such as having very little short-term memory. I’ve always been afraid for the future when...

“Another Life,” the first song on PinkPantheress’ long-awaited debut album, Heaven Knows, opens with the ominous sound of an electrified cathedral organ. The collaboration with Nigerian musician Rema, in which the British singer wakes up next to her partner only to find him dead, fittingly sounds like a funeral. “Can you please wake up, babe? Now you’re scaring me,” she sings, before coming to terms with her reality: “Guess you died today, and I can’t believe it. You lost your soul, you know that you can’t stop this.

The Beatles were a magical band. Paul McCartney and John Lennon found it easy to write songs together in the early days, and those shared hits helped propel the band to international fame and a slew of No. 1 songs and albums. Ska-funk-rock-punk-metal masters Fishbone have shared the new song “All We Have Is Now,” which is included on the Bottle Music for Broken People label comp via Fat Mike’s Bottles to the Ground imprint.
The track is signature Fishbone with its joyous horns and funky rhythms. Its positive lyrical message also serves as a poignant reminder to live in the present: “All we have is now.”
“Philosophically, it’s far from a new concept,” notes Fishbone’s Norwood Fisher in a press release. “Eckard Tolle, Allan Watts, Joseph Campbell and many others have contemplated and pontificated on this topic. The pursuit of self inquest, in the hopes of experiencing an extended, extraordinary sense of Being, the song, wrapped in a fully blown Fishbone party, reminds me to take advantage of the gift of the ever present now. Feel free to interpret it however it speaks to you.”

Ice Spice has hopped on a new remix of PinkPantheress’ recent song, “Boy’s a Liar.”
For “Boy’s a Liar Pt. 2,” PinkPantheress didn’t make any tweaks to the original’s bustling beat (co-produced with Mura Masa), letting Ice Spice drop in with a verse about a two-timing guy that’s fierce, yet a little lovelorn: “Duckin’ my shit, cause he know what I’m on/But when he hit me I’m not gonna respond/But I don’t sleep enough without you/And I can’t eat enough without you.

You’ve been to Harry’s House. Now, James Corden is bringing the One Directioner to your apartment.
Well, not to your apartment — unless you happen to be one of the roommates featured in this Harry Styles segment from Thursday’s episode of The Late Late Show. Showcasing rarely seen queer cinema from East and Southeast Asia and amplifying the voices of Asian communities in the UK
Queer East Film Festival has announced the full programme for its third edition, which runs from 18th to 29th May in London.
Following the first two successful editions, this year’s festival will bring films, audiences and filmmakers together in the cinema, while continuing to offer a chance to experience rarely-seen queer cinema from East and Southeast Asia to viewers across the UK.
At its heart, Queer East aims to amplify the voices of queer Asian communities, to challenge normative definitions of gender and sexual expression, and to introduce UK audiences to LGBTQ+ cinema that they might not otherwise get a chance to see. This year’s programme includes feature films, shorts, programmes of boundary-challenging artists’ moving image work, a Virtual Reality experience, and a TV miniseries, alongside filmmakers’ Q&As.

In case you didn't know, there's a One Direction edition of the popular Heardle game, and it's the perfect way for Directioners to test their knowledge! If you haven't played Heardle yet, it's pretty simple: you're given the first few seconds of a song, and you have to try to guess the track in the shortest amount of time possible. You get one second to start and can continue adding seconds to the clip until you get it.
If you know the beginnings of songs, this should be easy! That's why we put together a cheat sheet of the opening lyrics to all of One Direction's songs. However, bear in mind that not every song's opening will have lyrics, so you really have to know those intro notes.
The list below contains all of the songs from One Direction's discography - from "Up All Night" to "Made in the A.

Things got a little uncomfortable for Katy Perry on American Idol. On the April 25 episode of the hit talent show, the "I Kissed a Girl" singer had an awkward moment after contestant Noah Thompson performed a John Mayer song. When Thompson guessed it was Perry who chose "Heartbreak Warfare" for him to perform instead of John Denver's "Take Me Home," Perry—who previously dated Mayer—replied, "Noah, I feel like you should maybe Wikipedia me. I picked John Denver." After judge Luke Bryan admitted to choosing the song for Thompson, Perry said, "It's all a great song—I can't talk anymore." The...

On paper, The Other Side of Darkness reads like a socio-political take on an old-school kids action-adventure movie like The Goonies and Frog Dreaming… essentially this wants to be Red Dawn for the modern generation.
A 16 year-old girl receives a mysterious birthday gift that leads her and her friends on an adventurous collision course towards a plot to dismantle America’s power grid.
See? But in reality, The Other Side of Darkness doesn’t really know what it is. The film opens with our heroine, Taylor, getting fired from her job, a job it turns out is working for her stepfather, who offers to give her the job back if she sleeps with him. Then Taylor gets a weird parcel in the mail with keys to a storage locker,...

A24 might have found its cutest movie yet. The studio released a trailer for “Marcel the Shell with Shoes On” Tuesday, which is the first feature-length mockumentary about the tiny shell with a big personality.
In the film, Marcel the Shell is on a mission to find his family. Marcel currently lives with his grandmother Connie and their pet lint, Alan. They were once part of a sprawling community of shells, but they now live alone after surviving a mysterious tragedy.
“It’s pretty much common knowledge that it takes at least 20 shells to have a community,” Marcel explains in the trailer, which you can watch above. “My cousin fell asleep in a pocket, and that’s why I don’t like the saying ‘Everything comes out in the wash,’ because sometimes it doesn’t. Or sometimes it does, and they’re just a completely different person.”
The little family now lives a quiet existence.

"Take me home." Film Movement has unveiled the official US trailer for an indie coming-of-age film from Russia titled The Whaler Boy, marking the feature directorial debut of filmmaker Philipp Yuryev. This first premiered in the Venice Days sidebar at the 2020 Venice Film Festival, and won the Director's Award there. It also played at numerous other festivals around the world through the last year. The film follows a young hunter, living in a male-dominated whaling community, who sets off an a journey to find a webcam girl he saw on his computer after the internet arrives in their town. Featuring stunning photography of the dramatic landscape, and punctuated by some off-kilter humor, "there’s an almost fable-like simplicity to this atmospheric coming of age story" about the division between two worlds. The small cast includes Vladimir Onokhov, Kristina Asmus, and Arieh Worthalter. This looks quite compelling, I need to check it out.

WaZabi Films, the Montreal-based sales agent launched by Anick Poirier and Lorne Price, has boarded horror comedy “Red Wings,” one of buzziest and most singular titles at early August’s Frontières Co-Production Market.
Created by executive producer Rhiannon Aarons, a publisher/co-editor on Bob Flanagan’s book “The Book of Medicine,” and Dana Hammer, author of novels such as “Rosemary’s Baby Daddy” and “Dead Viking Rehab,” “Red Wings” turns on Audrina, who gets bitten by a bat and gains an unnatural gift: Killer red bats that fly out of her vagina when she menstruates.
Learning to accept and master her superpower, she gains control of her life and fights evil in the process. Audrina starts the film being stalked by her ex-boyfriend. She now embraces her new bat-friends and sets out for retribution.
Kate Kroll will direct “Red Wings,” which is produced by Anne-Marie Gélinas at EMAfilms.

The Notorious B.I.G. is the only solo male artist being inducted into the delayed Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ceremony next month. In fact, he is the only solo male to be chosen for the past three induction ceremonies. This astounding fact follows several years of voters catching up on such artists as Neil Diamond (2011), Donovan (2012), Randy Newman (2013), Peter Gabriel (2014), Cat Stevens (2014), Lou Reed (2015), Bill Withers (2015), Steve Miller (2016), Nile Rodgers (2017) and Tupac Shakur (2017) with none for 2018 and 2019.
