Marlon Wayans began his week of guest hosting “The Daily Show” on Monday, and to kick things off, he admitted that he does see a similarity between his famous family and the Trumps. But he noted one key difference: No one in his family wants to sleep with another.
Wayans first took a moment to explain how he came to be part of the guest host rotation, acknowledging that some viewers might be a little surprised, even confused.
“I know you’re asking yourself: How the f— did I become the host? Well, they spun a wheel with all the Wayans’ name on it, and it landed on me,” he joked.
From there, Wayans leaned into the fact that almost any one of his family members could’ve been chosen to sit at the desk, considering they all have jobs in the entertainment industry. In total, there are 10 Wayans kids,...

In Barbara Kopple’s 40-plus year career as one of America’s greatest documentary directors, she has won Academy Awards for the seminal 1976 documentary “Harlan County, U.S.A.” a portrait of a Kentucky coal mining town in crisis, and for “American Dream,” a 1990 examination of a meatpackers’ strike at a Hormel plant in Austin, Minn. A pioneer of cinema vérité that got her start with the Maysles brothers (directors of “Gimme Shelter” and “Grey Gardens”), she was most recently nominated for a News & Documentary Emmy award for “Desert One,” a doc about the 1979 Iran hostage crisis. Kopple will be a keynote speaker at Variety and Rolling Stone’s Truth Seekers Summit on Thursday. She spoke to Variety about her decades-long career in nonfiction filmmaking.
When you look at the documentaries you’ve made, what’s the through line that connects them?
I don’t know if there’s a through line.

Spoiler Alert: Do not read ahead if you have not watched “The Masked Singer” Season 6, Episode 12, “Group B Finale,” which aired December 9 on Fox.
Singer Katharine McPhee and producer David Foster say “The Masked Singer” producers actually “undersold” how much fun they’d have as contestants on the hit Fox reality series. “We had the best time,” Foster said. “No regrets.” The couple were unmasked as the Banana Split on the twelfth episode of Season 6, “Group B Finale.”
“We didn’t have any summer plans,” McPhee said. “I was five months postpartum, and Covid was raging. We just thought, what are we going to do, sit at home all summer long and just look at each other? So we did that, we looked at each other for two or three weeks straight on the show. And just had so much fun. And I was very upset that I lost that...

We love “The Masked Singer” and are thrilled that another set of famous faces is paired up in season 6, disguised this time as Banana Split. In season 4, we had the Snow Owls (who turned out to be husband and wife Clint Black and Lisa Hartman) and in season 5 the Russian Dolls were revealed to be the Hanson brothers.
The duo that is hidden inside the Banana Split costume first performed on the September 29 episode of “The Masked Singer,” made their second appearance on the October 13 episode and returned to compete again on November 3. That last performance earned them a place in the Group B semifinal on November 17 where they edged out Caterpillar and Mallard for a spot in the final. On December 8, they face the Queen of Hearts for a place in the final against the Group A champion, Bull.
We’ve been reviewing all the clues since their debut...

Marlon Wayans, writer, producer, and star of White Chicks, took movie buffs behind the film's origin secrets. The star shared a picture of himself and Paris Hilton posing together on his Instagram on June 30. "The original 'white chick' and I...funny story one day my brother [Shawn Wayans] calls me at 3am saying 'marlon we should play white chicks,'" the comedian wrote in the caption. Marlon jokingly responded by asking his brother if he was "high." "The next day he showed me a magazine with @ParisHilton and her sister on the cover and said we should play gurls like this," he recalled. "I immediately got it." "They were so big and...
