Sonic the Hedgehog : [both are on the beach after Knuckles saved him from drowning] You saved me?
Knuckles the Echidna : Don't talk to me. I'm not in the mood
[Sonic throws a sandball at him]
Knuckles the Echidna : How dare you attack me in my hour of sorrow!
[Sonic throws another sandball at him]
Sonic the Hedgehog : Why did you save me?
[Knuckles throws a giant sand ball at him which buries him completely]
Knuckles the Echidna : [making another sand ball] Because you saved me first, which clearly gave you a tactical advantage I do not understand.
Sonic the Hedgehog : It wasn't a tactic. I couldn't just let you die.
Knuckles the Echidna : Why? I've been trying to destroy you since the moment we met.
Sonic the Hedgehog : Because being a hero isn't about taking care of yourself. It's about taking responsibility for other people.
Knuckles the Echidna : [sits down next to Sonic] Hmm, wise words. An ancient Earth proverb?
Sonic the Hedgehog : No, sir, that's a Wachowski family special. I got it from a guy in a rowboat, someone who means a lot to me.
[hears a plane]
Sonic the Hedgehog : Wait a second, what's that sound?
Miles "Tails" Prower : Only Sonic the Hedgehog needs rescuing this much.
Sonic the Hedgehog : [laughs] That sly little fox.
[to Knuckles]
Sonic the Hedgehog : Come on, Knucklehead, we're not beat yet.
Knuckles the Echidna : On the mountain, you told me you lost everything, the way I did. But you seem so hopeful and free, how did you move forward despite failing again and again and again and again and again and again--?
Sonic the Hedgehog : OK, I didn't fail *that* much, but I didn't do this all alone I found a new family, new friends, and you can too.
[offering his hand]
Sonic the Hedgehog : You don't have to be alone anymore.
[Knuckles accepts his hand, crushing it in the process]
Sonic the Hedgehog : Ow, ow, ow, ow, are you kidding me with that handshake?

Miles "Tails" Prower : [lifting Knuckles into the air] You're really heavy!
Knuckles the Echidna : That's because I am one million percent muscle. Faster, fox!

Sonic the Hedgehog : I'm sorry, who are you?
Miles "Tails" Prower : Name's Tails!
Sonic the Hedgehog : OK... this is what we're gonna do: Step one: Light taunting. Step two: I have no idea.

Knuckles the Echidna : I've spent my whole life questing for this. Now I have it. Now we have it. What can we do with it? What next?
Miles "Tails" Prower : There were once two orders of heroes who protected the galaxy from those who used the Emerald for evil.
Knuckles the Echidna : But they've all passed on to the great battleground in the sky.
Sonic the Hedgehog : So we start a new order. The three of us.
Knuckles the Echidna : This is no light task. We must make a vow, to use our powers to keep the universe safe, to watch out for each other, our new tribe.
Miles "Tails" Prower : Oh, I know! A power bump!
[holds up his fist]
Sonic the Hedgehog : Good idea!
[puts his fist against Tails' fist while Knuckles looks confused]
Miles "Tails" Prower : It's an Earth custom. An unbreakable promise.
Knuckles the Echidna : Very well. A power bump it is.
[Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles put their fists against each other in the center]
Sonic the Hedgehog : Power Bump!

Miles "Tails" Prower : [after Sonic and Tails win a dance battle] Huh, wow! Only Sonic the Hedgehog could win a dance battle that epic!
Sonic the Hedgehog : Stick with me, pal. Earth can be a scary place, but I know everything about this whole pale blue dot.
Miles "Tails" Prower : Do you... really mean that?
Sonic the Hedgehog : I mean, not everything, but I watch a LOT of Discovery Channel, and...
Miles "Tails" Prower : I meant about... me being your pal.
Sonic the Hedgehog : Course, buddy.
[Tails hugs Sonic]
Sonic the Hedgehog : Oh-ho-ho, coming in hot!
Miles "Tails" Prower : Growing up, I didn't have any friends. Everyone in my village thought my two tails were weird.
Sonic the Hedgehog : Hey, I know that feeling.
Miles "Tails" Prower : But then I saw you. The fastest creature in the galaxy. You were weird too, but you were a legend. That made me think, maybe being weird isn't so bad. You inspired me to leave my village, to find you and help you in your mission.
Sonic the Hedgehog : I'm really glad you're here, Tails.
Miles "Tails" Prower : I'm glad I'm here too, Sonic.
Sonic the Hedgehog : [yawns] Might as well get some sleep. This feels like a good place to spend the night. You'll be able to get clear readings on your gizmo thing once the storm is over. So I...
[finds Tails fast asleep and wraps blanket around him]
Sonic the Hedgehog : Night, Tails.
[Tails drapes his two tails around Sonic as they sleep]

[Maddie, Tom and Sonic tend to an unconcious Tails in the outside reception area; out at sea, a glowing green beam of light flares into the sky; Commander Walters is gagged and tied to a chair]
Tom Wachowski : Sonic... what is that?
Sonic the Hedgehog : A big problem. The compass led Robotnik to the Emerald.
Maddie Wachowski : That's gotta be hundreds of miles away.
Tom Wachowski : All right. Huddle up. Let's figure out a plan.
[to Sonic]
Tom Wachowski : Together.
Sonic the Hedgehog : [starts walking away] There's no time for that. I'm the only one that can get there fast enough.
Maddie Wachowski : Sonic, this is way too big for you to do by yourself.
Sonic the Hedgehog : [turns back and indicates Tails] You see that little fox over there? He came all the way across the universe to meet his hero, and what did his hero do? I practically got him killed.
[to Tom]
Sonic the Hedgehog : You know what? You were right. My moment came, and I blew it. I'm no hero.
Tom Wachowski : Wait.
Sonic the Hedgehog : No. I'm not letting anyone else get hurt because of me. I'm gonna fix this while I still can.
[races off into the distance]
Tom Wachowski : Sonic!
[Tails wakes up]
Miles "Tails" Prower : [gasps] Sonic, wait!
[tries to fly, but falls on his face and groans; Tom and Maddie rush to his side]
Maddie Wachowski : Hold on, wait.
Tom Wachowski : Hey, hey, hey.
Maddie Wachowski : Don't move.
Tom Wachowski : Take it easy, little guy. You're hurt.
Miles "Tails" Prower : But we have to help him. You don't know what he's up against.
[on the horizon, the green light glows brighter; Commander Walters watches from his chair]
Tom Wachowski : You believe us now?
Commander Walters : [nods sheepishly] Mmm-hmm.
