Tribes indeed
Ashitaka1376 January 2021
Amos really knows how to explain things simply but bluntly and truthfully. These episodes are a treasure of writing, storytelling, acting, and pure sci-fi space opera heaven. Even if the Expanse was #1 on every ratings, it still would be underrated.

Does the job, but the weakest episode so far this season
winsladerobert6 January 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Episode contains a short but fun action scene with Alex and Bobbie, some great character development with Amos and Clarissa (slightly marred by bizarrely filmed action sequence which took me out of my immersion somewhat), a brief but endearing scene revealing Chrisjen's bravado cracking a bit under the stress, a short scene establishing the Roci leaving Tycho, and some decent scenes on board Marco's ship, the Pella.

I'm finding so far that having so many seperate plot threads in this season is making it feel as though the plot is spread slightly thin in these more slow-burn episodes and this was the episode where I have felt that the most, a feeling heightened by the week long wait between episodes and the fact that it is coming off the back of another slower episode (I suspect that these pacing issues would be much less apparent if I were binge watching the season).

All in all, the weakest episode of the season so far, but episodes like this are somewhat inevitable in shows as serialized as The Expanse; it is still mostly well made and enjoyable and I am very much looking forward to seeing the build-up pay off in the upcoming episodes

I'm conflicted
James09877 January 2021
There were some amazing moments in this episode and there were some not so great ones. One scene in particular was a little janky and took me out of it. I'm worried that this series cannot be resolved in what little episodes are left.

You don't need nonstop action to tell a story
nlmike10 January 2021
Or rather. Spend time actually telling the story of different tribes from very different viewpoints and scenarios. Top notch acting as usual.

Awaiting the moment when things undoubtedly kick off again!

The Avaserala scene was incredibly well acted. Imho.

Great character development
chalexander-7937711 January 2021
Every episode can't be all-out action. These character development eps make the action ones better because we actually care about what's happening.

Great episode
absolutelylucid4 February 2021
I don't know what has people in a bunch. Does an episode have to have action and big events to be good? Every scene in this episode is tight and concise. I haven't read the books, so I can't make that comparison, but this isn't Disney doing fan fiction after burning George's scripts. This is the actual authors adapting their work into a TV show. They have every right to make changes. If it's great, then it's great, and this is great.

Minimal action. Just as fulfilling. Continues to get better with every episode.

Character development on The Expanse is unmatched across all of TV, streaming or not. Amos in S5 is clearly the same person from S1, but his awareness re: Holden & being a good person is what we'd love to see from everyone, fictional or not.

And yeah they have the books to go off of, but it still takes an incredible amount of skill & artistry for high quality characterization & character development.

Alliances, Maybe?!
Hitchcoc14 January 2021
To each his own, but I don't need non-stop action to enjoy science fiction. I rather enjoyed the slow pace of this because I know that forces are going to intersect soon. The mother/son thing is working itself into some sort of resolution. Marco is watching every move. The speech about being part of his ultimate ends is so much like a kind of cowardice. And it's dangerous. Down on Earth it is much more interesting because it's more conventionally a survival story. These two characters are really interesting.

I liked it
solonche-637-1537069 January 2021
The story is moving along and should end with a cliffhanger. That's what it's all about. I recommend watching the Aftershow...good stuff.

Snail pace story telling
Mansuritooo8 January 2021
I'm not one for action all the time, I would be perfectly content with great dialogue, tension and overall story telling. But damn I found myself distracted for half the episode as nothing interesting was happening. Not one their strongest episodes. Side note - Naomi is sooo annoying and I'm not looking forward to her inevitably saving her son.

Great filler episode, the story is lining up
ragnarhannes6 January 2021
This excellent episode puts things in line for the rest of story. What made the show 10/10 is the "Schrodingers parent" concept.

Not really a six but for old times sake...

Warning: Spoilers
This writer may be the worst thing to happen to a good book series. It doesn't make sense why every main plot now devolves to children screaming about their victimhood and the MURDER of BILLIONS... Yes, billions, not millions like every character keeps repeating. No one should care about Inaros, his son or the previous relationship with Naomi because they did a crappy job of telling the story. Honestly, "belters" just aren't that interesting now that Miller is out of the equation. This goes for the next episode double. Read the books. This is schlock.

... and learn. Th writers room design the chessboard. All figures are in place for the finally 4 episode's. It is an intelligent acting and dialog episode. The strategy of the last episode of the turns in to a very special and rich an possibility turns.

This episode shows as some very acting qualities of our beloved character and a very sensible Director and camera work.

And a romance too?
A_Different_Drummer12 March 2021
Amazing thing about this series are the bonus episodes like this one. Two extremely dangerous people in a difficult situation finding common ground. Brilliant.

Enjoyable episode
8512226 October 2022
Greetings from Lithuania.

"Tribes", sixth episode of season 5 was not the best one, but still a solid one. There are multiple storylines transpiring, and all of them I believe will collide sooner or later - it happened before. I like the different setting in this season. Scenes on earth looks a bit surreal, because all previous seasons had only very little glimpses of earth. Yet unfortunately we can't really see that much of life on earth. In this episode it was particularly clear.

Overall, "Tribes" was enjoyable episode and nothing more. Story did not move very much, but i suppose it will pick up soon.

Not much happens
Turanic6 January 2021
I love Expanse, but sadly quite a few episodes in this season are quite fillers with almost nothing happening, like this one,I mean it's still an OK episode, but the main plot turns could easily be a part of another episode with stronger main plot line...

Anachronism?
nemesis-8822 January 2021
Is it just me or does anyone else think Marko Inaros actor is actually YOUNGER than his "son" Filip? They couldn't find an actor who looks just a wee bit older? I wouldn't mind Liam Neeson as Marco. Would be such a CHEF'S KISS!

ANTI TRIBES
douglasjordane29 April 2021
THE CAST OF THE EXPANSE ARE ALL OFF ON THEIR RESPECTIVE LITTLE ADVENTURES. IT HAS MADE FOR AN UNEVENTFUL FIRST HALF TO SEASON 5. WHEN THERE IS AN OCCASION FOR SOME ACTION, IT IS ALWAYS SHORT-LIVED AND SHORT-STAFFED.

THE GOOD THING ABOUT EPISODE "TRIBES" IS YOU START TO SEE HOPES OF THINGS HEATING UP TO THE FAMILIAR "EXPANSE" THAT WE HAVE COME TO LOVE AND APPRECIATE. HOPEFULLY, THIS TRIBALISM OF STORIES IS NEARING ITS END. THERE IS ONLY ONE EXPANSE BELTALOWDA!

THE PRICE BEYOND FREEDOM

FREEDOM IS DIFFERENT FROM INDEPENDENCE. IN FACT, FREEDOM IS THE PRECURSOR TO INDEPENDENCE. ONCE FREEDOM IS ACHIEVED, INDEPENDENCE CAN BEGIN. UNFORTUNATELY, INDEPENDENCE IS A CRUEL UNCERTAINTY-BUT NECESSARY TO TEST ONE'S ABILITY TO SURVIVE.

CATASTROPHIC CHANGE IS UPON THE WORLD OF THE EXPANSE -BOTH INSIDE THE PLOT AND OUTSIDE THE CAST AND PRODUCTION OF THE SHOW. THIS IS A SLOW BUILD TO SOMETHING. IT IS NOT SO MUCH THAT THE FUTURE IS UNCLEAR FOR THE EXPANSE IN THE MIDST OF A REAL PHENOMENA OF A GLOBAL PANDEMIC; IT IS MORE THAN UNCLEAR WHETHER THE RESPECTIVE OUTCOMES OF BOTH REALITY AND PLOT WILL BE FRUITFUL.
