According to UNICEF the condition of poor children in some of the third world countries is not at all good as many of them are forced to earn their livelihood under extremely precarious conditions. This is a gross violation of fundamental human rights as these children are eking out living at a time when they should be playing and learning at a school.Hungarian documentary film director Moldovanyi Ferenc's film "Another Planet" talks about some such courageous children who have been forced to live in poverty due to famine, poor living conditions and war.Mr.Moldovanyi takes us to three continents namely Africa,Asia and South America to show how some unfortunate children are living miserable lives. The sad thing that has been shown in "Another Planet" is that most of the kids are ill treated by their own families. This is shown in scenes where a mom asks her young daughter to sell cigarettes and a young boy shining shoes. These scenes form part of South American segment. The depiction of the harsh, inhuman and unjust conditions under which children live is the most touching part of African segment. It concerns a young African boy employed at a brick kiln.We see how some young African boys are forced to eat food from a dirty vessel. Regarding the depiction of poverty and scenes of shock value it must be stated that they are rather graphic in nature but appear truthful as they are full of genuine artistic integrity. For the Asian segment, we are shown young kids in east Asia supporting their families by scavenging. This is a grim battle for survival as in their busy daily lives young kids wage numerous minor battles in order to remain alive come what may happen. Moldovanyi Ferenc has questioned us all about our knowledge of the planet on which we are living. His film asks us whether it is really another planet. If our planet were good such despicable things would never have taken place to children. The most shocking segment of this documentary depicts young African kids taking arms to fight in wars. This is something which might force us to shudder at the very thought of involvement of children in wars. We cannot turn a blind eye to such happenings. "Another Planet" is an extremely fast paced documentary as a lot of movement is witnessed. Veteran Hungarian cinematographer Mathe Tibor leaves us with a gaping mouth with his stunning photography.Szemzo Tibor's musical score fits equally well with the overall pensive mood of the film. This is one of a kind of film as it does not leave you uninfluenced. It urges us to do something meaningful, worthwhile for poor children in whatever manner possible. "Another Planet" must be shown to all governmental and non governmental agencies including UNICEF which must immediately take constructive measures to improve the lives of these children.
