In the episode "The Kaplowey Scroll", the cursed magical word "Kaplowey" was used a total of 18 times: Once by Papa Smurf (to Fly); once by Farmer (to a rock); twice by Clumsy (first to a tree root then to the tree); once by Lazy (to Harmony's trumpet); once by Harmony (to Lazy's bed); once by Brainy (to a sack of flour); once by Smurfette (to a storm cloud); a second time by Papa (to a candle); once by Grouchy (to Jokey); a third time by Clumsy (to another tree root); twice by Papa, Clumsy, Hefty, and Sloppy together (first to Gargamel's door and second to the scroll itself); and five times by Gargamel (to the Smurfs without effect).
Lucille Bliss, the actress who voiced Smurfette, revealed in an interview that "Squeaky" was her favorite episode.
In the syndicated version of "Squeaky", the entire sequence of Squeaky becoming a hero when he alerts the Smurfs that Papa Smurf's laboratory is on fire and feeling tired after all the effort has been edited out.
"The Kaplowey Scroll" is one of the few episodes to be animated at Hanna-Barbera Australia, albeit uncredited.
The episode "Squeaky" is unusual among Smurf stories, in that it deals with an actual death (something normally considered taboo in children's television shows), and of a cute forest animal befriended by the Smurfs.
