- Laura, a lonely and wealthy woman, decides to access the audition of the TV show "The Handout". In the format three beggars contend for the compassion of the public from home collecting live donations.
- In the near future, Laura, aged fifty-five, alone, well-off, heavily rebuilt by plastic surgery, decides to abandon her belongings in order to gain access to the audition of the talent show "The Charity". Every week the television format compares three beggars who challenge each other to collect donations from the public at home: those who manage to arouse more pain than others also win the money accumulated by the losers. The antechamber to access the audition is "The Neighborhood", an unhealthy and dilapidated ghetto in which a blind big man called 'The Dog', chooses the candidates relying only on the sense of smell. Exhausted by days of hardship outside the home, Laura is sniffed by the dog and gets a place in the neighborhood in the shack abandoned by the family of Lisa, winner of the last episode of the format. Affected by a lethal disease, now Lisa can at least guarantee a better future to her son Dodo. A few hours after the new episode, the study assistants realize that Miro, one of the competitors, is not really forced into a wheelchair, but has pretended to be paraplegic to access the selections, in league with the Dog, with whom he divided the jackpot in case of victory. Nina, the conductor of the program, carefully examines the recording of Laura's crazy audition, very similar to a request for forgiveness, to a tormenting confession. When the assistants indicate Laura as a possible replacement for the competing impostor Miro, Nina refuses dryly. From the first image of that film, she recognized Laura as the mother who had abandoned her many years ago to pursue success. But the show must continue. The Dog is thus forced to break the legs of Miro, to stage the truth without compromise required by the TV format. In the dark and deserted streets, the voice of Nina rejoices jubilant from the televisions tuned on the new episode of "The Handout".
