I grew up with this excellent show, and I must admit that this is one of my very favorite episodes. "Ed, Edd, n Eddy" has to be one of the most popular, most hilarious television cartoons ever created. Other teenagers from the nineties will tell you how great cartoons like this were.
In "Fa La La La Ed", we find Eddy, in the middle of July, attempting to scam neighborhood friends and kids with Christmas-like greed. Like always, they are clever scams, and his two friends, DD and Ed, are right by his side, no matter what their instincts tell them about this scamming situation.
One of the most perfect things about "Ed, Edd, and Eddy" is the voice acting. These are some of the most suiting voices for characters that I've ever seen. The acting is strong and silly, but always hilarious. Shows like "Ed, Edd, and Eddy" surpass everything Cartoon Network seems to be releasing in this day and age. All of the voice actors for every character on this show know what they are doing, and then they give excellent performances.
In "Fa La La La Ed", we have some very witty writing, which is nothing new for this brilliant cartoon. There are so many references to things like "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" and "It's a Wonderful Life" that you are just blessed with an enormous smile every few seconds. The humor is abundant, and it never, EVER seems to get old. You must note that I own this particular episode on a Cartoon Network Christmas collection DVD, so I have been watching this episode every single Christmas for nearly five-or-six years. It is so short that many jokes fade, but it ALWAYS gives me laughs, even now, when I am at the age of nineteen, childhood not too far behind me. Even the characters have always been developed. They have never seemed to be caricatures, in my opinion. On top of all the hilarious dialogue and events, this episode gives us a kind message along the lines of: When you try to sell the Christmas spirit, you'll end up gaining nothing. This is just too grande a cartoon, my readers.
The opening sequence to the show has always had a very catchy, jazzy tune that I catch myself sometimes whistling at my first job ever. The store is so empty that it echoes and replicates the original tune (or, at least, the one in my noggin). The score, to say the least, adds a ton of charm to the show.
"Fa La La La Ed" deserves my nine-out-of-ten stars I'm giving it. I loved it more this year than any other year I've watched it, for the sole reason that it gets better and more charming with each Christmas season of every single year.
