An interesting stand-alone episode which, as with others, throws out a red herring from the start. Three orphans living alone establish a scam which will keep them together. There is, of course, no explanation as to how they meet all the expenses for keeping up a household. The ghost in question is their deceased mother, whose death they have tried to hide.
The show allows Ned some major screen time, as one of the orphans is his girlfriend; one of four he is featured with, none of whom ever appears again. While the producers jumped him ten years to broaden possible story lines, he is actually omitted from 20 of the 49 episodes he's credited in.
At any rate, the outcome, which is dependent on another character to become their guardian, is made happy thanks to the intercession of Melinda. The final scene is particularly touching.
