Can't look away whenever it comes on
As a young journalist back in the early 90s, I got to do a phone interview with Eddie Money as a preview for a show he was doing at a mid-Michigan county fair. A fan since I was a kid, I was hopelessly nervous -- and he knew it -- so *he* interviewed *me* for the first several minutes until I settled in, asking me about seeing him in concert and about my favorite Eddie Money songs. I was scheduled to talk to him for something like 15 minutes. He kept us going for more than 45. Later, he made me promise to come see him backstage at the show.
He was EXACTLY as nice as every other rock-star describes him in this fantastic tribute show -- maybe more so. He remains the nicest celebrity I've ever interviewed. And that's one of the things that makes this tribute show so special: How he touched a lot of others' lives in the same way.
The concert contains some great covers: John Waite's "Save a little room in your heart for me," is beautiful. REO Speedwagon's Kevin Cronin nails "I Think I'm in Love." Jame's Hetfield's stuns on "Baby, hold on." And the star studded "Two tickets to Paradise" finale is fantastic.
A bonus for me: My wife and I were at his last show at Pine Knob, in Clarkston, Michigan, and clips of it are shown throughout this special. My eyes get a little watery when I see them and remember how he seemed a little tired that night, and how we didn't know what was to come. We just sang the songs with him.
As tribute concerts go, this is a great one, especially if you're a fan of Eddie Money and his music.
